🧐 Does taking a gap year really hurt your chances of getting admitted?🎓or🧢 Well, it really depends on your case and the type of gap year you go for. There are two types of gap years. 1- Applying your first year, getting rejected from a college and reapplying the next year. If you choose to take a gap year and cannot demonstrate a very big change in your application the next time you apply, it's very likely you will get rejected again. Why? Imagine you are an employer and you see a resume that you don't like for some reason and reject it. What do you do if the same candidate sends you the same resume again? Probably reject again. However, you can apply to other colleges. 2- Graduating from your school, but not applying to any college and taking a gap year. You will not lose your chances of getting admitted if you choose this path, because it basically means colleges haven't had a look at your application yet, which is why you are "fresh and interesting" in their eyes. This is a great chance to improve your extracurriculars, honors and academics. But be sure to have an exact plan for your gap year to make the most of it, if you choose this way. If your reason for a gap year is not supported well, it may hurt your chance. Whatever gap year you are in, It's also important to know that focusing solely on SAT and IELTS is a bad idea. If all you're showing is improvement in test scores over a whole year, to admissions officers it only means you didn't use your time wisely. You also must explore your interests, continue engaging in communities, apply to programs that you find appealing and maybe try new activities. In other words, have a normal-human life. Best college applicants are those who have a normal life where they do what they like, not only take tests. Here's the conclusion: If you think you're not strong enough for a college this year and probably will get a rejection, it's better to not apply at all. Instead, save those chances and go for that gap year and have some time to work on your application. Afterall, colleges themselves encourage applicants to take a gap year before and even after they apply. And remember that you're more than just test scores ;) @SATashkent ✨
