Corridor of Life Military Operation, 1992. 24 June 1992 saw the beginning of one of the most important operations for the Serbian people, and one which was to have a major impact on the rest of the war. In the summer of 1992, the Croatian and Bosnian Muslim armies kept the army of the Republika Srpska completely surrounded in the area of Bosanska Krajina for about a month. The main objective of the Corridor of Life was to break out of the encirclement, establish communication and reunite the western parts of Republika Srpska and Srpska Krajina with the eastern parts of Republika Srpska and Serbia. Fighting continued for over a month. During the fighting, the Republika Srpska army liberated the towns of Derventa, Modrica and Odjak. The final victory and defeat of the Croatian regular army and Bosnian Muslim military formations came only in October 1992, when the town of Brod was liberated. 413 Serb soldiers were killed and 1908 wounded. The Muslim-Croat forces lost 1,261 dead and 6,250 wounded.
