🇷🇺 Terror Attack on #Dagestan Churches and Synagogue: Gunmen in the southern Russian republic of Dagestan have killed six police officers and wounded 12 more in a series of attacks, security officials say reports BBC. The attackers targeted a synagogue and churches in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala, both on the Caspian Sea. Gunfire was and still is heard throughout the cities, as well as reportedly explosions says Readovka. A Russian Orthodox priest has also been killed and two attackers shot dead, state media report, quoting the local Interior Ministry. Footage on social media shows a building on fire in Makhachkala. The synagogue in Derbent was set on fire as a result of the attack, local officials told the Reuters news agency, while eyewitnesses also reported that smoke was rising from the church. Both the synagogue and the church are located in Derbent, which is home to ancient Jewish community in the mainly-Muslim North Caucasus region. The police post attack took place in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, approximately 125km (78 miles) away. Russian media reports about the death of the rector of the Church of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Archpriest Nikolai Kotelnikov, and a guard of the temple. Israel's MFA reported that gunmen shot two non-Jewish synagogue guards in Makhachkala and set fire to the synagogue hall. At the time of the incident, there were no worshipers in the building. The assailants have not been identified, but Dagestan has in the past been the scene of Islamist attacks. Two men were also apprehended on the beach, reportedly connected to the attackers. @ourwarstoday #Russia
