The greatest aspects of our character aren’t intentional they are the byproduct of natural gifts and the rigorous pursuit of a higher ideal: Masculinity and charisma can’t be faked. We can lift weights and cultivate our body, but charisma of a Chad doesn’t come from watching alpha male videos and aping what they teach you. Most of the material benefits of religion can’t be consciously constructed they are a byproduct of genuine belief and the pursuit of a higher ideal. Hamas works because top to bottom everyone believes that Allah commands them to fight. They aren’t sitting around trying to craft the perfect social identity their social identity is emergent out of their spirit. Happiness can’t be chased it’s the byproduct of a virtuous life and self sacrifice. When we are wiling to die for what we believe in, when we are at peace with ourselves accepting our inner civil war, when we abandon our selfish desires and commit to what’s right only then can we achieve our true potential.
