| 2 | Super Micro Computer Inc. logs record $60B backlog
Super Micro Computer Inc. just projected a record $60 billion backlog for its fiscal fourth quarter, fueling a 15% jump in stock price as investors respond to accelerating demand for AI-optimized infrastructure 🚀.
The firm reported gross margins that exceeded analyst expectations, signaling that enterprises are prioritizing dedicated AI server builds over standard capacity expansion. Hardware procurement is currently driven by the necessity of high-performance compute for large-scale training and inference pipelines.
The sustained demand for high-end server clusters confirms that the hardware bottleneck for production-grade AI remains tight across the industry.
Unlike previous years where enterprise refresh cycles were predictable, the current velocity of infrastructure deployment at Super Micro Computer Inc. indicates that companies are locking in capacity months ahead of schedule to avoid supply constraints 🔥.
The scale of this backlog demonstrates just how much raw compute is required to take LLM projects from prototype to production.
The infrastructure race shows no signs of slowing down.

| 5 | $7.8 Trillion AWS Billing Glitch
⚠️ AWS users had a rough morning after receiving invoices as high as $7.8 trillion. The issue originated from a critical glitch in the company's usage reporting infrastructure. While it is clearly a system error rather than a real financial liability, seeing a balance exceeding the GDP of most countries is enough to spike anyone's cortisol levels.
The system failed to correctly interpret consumption metrics, leading the billing engine to output extreme, nonsensical values for affected accounts.
If you were among the affected, rest assured this is just a display error that will be corrected once the team pushes the fix. Hopefully, the developers managing the billing pipeline can laugh about this eventually.
At least the credit card isn't getting charged.

| 7 | Honor 'Robot Phone' spotted at the FIFA World Cup 🤖
The Honor 'Robot Phone' just made a surprise cameo at the FIFA World Cup post-match celebrations, signaling a serious shift in form factor experiments. You should prepare for a premium price point of roughly $2,200. 📱
The device runs on the 3nm Snapdragon Wear Elite chip, pushing the limits for this class of hardware. The standout feature is the gimbal-stabilized retractable camera system designed to handle shaky environments. However, the 800 mAh battery seems quite compact, forcing a trade-off between raw power and daily endurance. 🔋
The price point aligns with flagship foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold or the Huawei Mate XT. Unlike those, which focus on screen real estate, this unit prioritizes specialized mechanical optics. ⚙️
The Samsung Galaxy Camera also tried to bridge the gap between pro-grade optics and mobile hardware, only to vanish into obscurity.

| 10 | 9.1 GW renewable surge in Australia
Last financial year, Australia added a record 9.1 GW of new generation and storage capacity to its grid. This marks the most successful period for large-scale renewable infrastructure in the country's history.
The Australian Energy Market Operator confirmed these figures as the system transitions toward cleaner energy sources. This massive injection of power isn't just about solar farms or wind turbines; it is about significant storage capacity coming online to stabilize the grid. Engineers and grid operators are balancing the variable nature of renewables with these new battery and pump-hydro solutions to prevent supply issues.
This growth trajectory outpaces previous years, showing that large-scale infrastructure projects are successfully moving past the supply chain bottlenecks and grid-connection delays that slowed the industry earlier this decade. Expect more integration of high-tech load balancing software into your standard infrastructure stack.
The grid is becoming a giant, distributed code-driven machine.

| 12 | Atmosphere detection on rocky exoplanet at 48 light years
Astronomers have successfully detected an atmosphere around a rocky planet in a habitable zone 48 light years away. This marks the first time we have managed to resolve the chemical signature of a terrestrial-like world's gaseous envelope.
Identifying such an atmosphere is a massive challenge due to the extremely low signal-to-noise ratio typical for rocky bodies. The team utilized a rare planetary alignment, which acted as a natural geometric filter, and processed the incoming data with sophisticated mathematical models to extract weak spectral signals from intense background stellar noise. This is essentially a high-stakes exercise in data filtering and signal reconstruction.
For anyone working with sensor fusion or complex arrays, this is a clear demonstration of how advanced processing can push the boundaries of what is physically observable. It moves us past simply finding planets and into actually characterizing their environments.
We are finally gaining the resolution needed to peer into distant, potentially habitable, systems.

| 15 | Apple hikes prices for iPhone and services in Japan
Apple has implemented broad price increases across its hardware and services, starting with significant adjustments for iPhone models in Japan. 💸
Subscriptions for Apple Music and iCloud+ are also seeing price hikes to offset local currency instability. The firm is navigating supply chain constraints that make maintaining old pricing models difficult.
The current memory chip shortage is creating a ripple effect, forcing hardware pricing to adapt to higher component procurement costs.
Compared to previous cycles, where Apple frequently absorbed component price spikes, this shift suggests a more aggressive stance on protecting hardware gross margins. The cost of silicon and global logistics is finally hitting the retail price tag.
Hardware availability remains volatile, and the financial burden is increasingly shifting to the user.
The cost of the ecosystem is clearly moving up.

| 17 | Apple's scrapped M3 and M2 Extreme chips
Apple internally developed the M3 Extreme and M2 Extreme chips intended for the Mac Pro, but ultimately pulled the plug on both projects. The company canceled these designs due to high production costs and limited projected demand for such high-end silicon.
The goal was to build processors with double the CPU and GPU cores found in the current Ultra variants. Apple essentially aimed to scale its custom architecture beyond the practical limits of its current manufacturing capabilities.
🔹 The design process stalled when the cost per wafer became impossible to justify.
🔹 Yield issues for such massive chips would have driven the final retail price to untenable levels.
🔹 Niche demand for workstation-level hardware didn't align with the massive R&D overhead.
Compared to the Ultra series, which is essentially two Max dies stitched together, the Extreme version would have required an even more complex interconnect and packaging strategy. Scaling yield at that density is a technical hurdle, and evidently, Apple decided the ROI simply wasn't there.
It is a rare instance of restraint in the industry-wide race for more cores.
Silicon scaling hit a wall here.
Would the extra cores have even made a difference in your workflow?

| 20 | Starship Flight 13 abort on July 16
SpaceX scrubbed the launch of Starship Flight 13 on July 16 after the automated systems detected a failure during the ignition sequence.
The mission control team halted the countdown when several engines failed to light as expected. This safeguard prevents catastrophic damage to the launch pad by aborting the sequence before the hold-down clamps release. Elon Musk confirmed the status shortly after the event.
Technical context for the current status:
🔹 Multiple Raptor engines failed to initiate ignition simultaneously during the final seconds.
🔹 The flight software successfully triggered an abort command to preserve the vehicle.
🔹 Engineering teams are currently performing a rapid diagnostic of the engine controllers and propellant feed lines.
🔹 A new launch window will likely open in the coming days once the telemetry data is fully analyzed.
This delay follows the rapid iteration cycle seen in previous Starship test campaigns. Unlike the early development flights which frequently ended in unplanned rapid unscheduled disassemblies, the current focus is on refining the automated startup sequence for consistent engine performance.
Hard engineering remains a game of inches and precise timing.
