In the Name of Allāh, the Entirely Gracious, the Exclusively Merciful 📩 Question: The questioner asks: If a traveller who has encamped in a city hears the call to prayer, is it obligatory upon him to pray with the congregation? 📝 The answer: Yes, it is obligatory upon him to answer the call and to attend the congregation if there is no difficulty upon him in attending and he is near the Masjid. It is allowed for him to combine ‘Asr with Dhuhr and ‘Isha with Maghreb. If after that the Mu’adhin gives the call to prayer for the following prayer, it is not obligatory upon him to attend it as he has prayed it already, and all perfect praise with love and veneration is exclusively for Allah. In the Name of Allāh, the Entirely Gracious, the Exclusively Merciful 📩 Question: The questioner says: What is the ruling on a man who prays with his face (nose and mouth) covered? 📝 The answer: If he is in need to do so, i.e. if he is afflicted with an illness in his nose, or a cold, or sensitivity, then there is no problem in that. The hadith is not established, the one which says: (نهى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أن يغطي الرجل فاه) “The Prophet (ﷺ) made prohibited for a man to cover his mouth” This hadith is not established. It is reported by Abu Dawud on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه), and in its chain of transmission is al-Hasan bin Dhakwan, and he is weak. However if there is no need, then it is incumbent to leave this off. It has not been reported from the Prophet (ﷺ) that he used to cover his face in the prayer, so this is disliked. Rather they used to see the Prophet (ﷺ), and they used to see his beard shake due to his recitation, as has come in Sahih al-Bukhari on the authority of Khubab bin al-Arat (رضي الله عنه).
