🆕 Polytechnic scientists have developed software for analysing neural connections SpineTool is a computer program that automatically analyses images and calculates the shape of neuron outgrowths that form connections in the brain. These formations are called dendritic spines. They occur when a person is memorizing information or learning something new. 💬 "The shape of dendritic spines changes in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, Down syndrome, and even when taking psychostimulants. It is about the development of any unfavourable processes in the brain. This happens very quickly, and our software allows us to quantify these changes," explained Ekaterina Pchitskaya, a researcher at the Laboratory of Molecular Neurodegeneration of the IBSB.
