US prosecutors have charged 21-year-old Florida resident and student Zyaire Wilkins in connection with an alleged scheme involving malware-infected video games uploaded to Steam.
According to a federal criminal complaint, Wilkins and several unnamed co-conspirators allegedly published multiple games over a two-year period, including BlockBlasters, Dashverse, Lampy, Lunara and PirateFi. Authorities say the games appeared functional but secretly installed malware designed to steal passwords, personal data and cryptocurrency.
The FBI alleges the operation infected about 8,000 computers, compromised approximately 80 crypto wallets and resulted in at least $220,000 in stolen digital assets. Prosecutors say the games were promoted through Discord, LinkedIn and Telegram.
Investigators traced cryptocurrency transactions to gift card purchases, including Uber Eats cards linked to deliveries made to Wilkins. Federal agents later searched his residence and seized electronic devices and digital wallets.
Wilkins was arrested Tuesday. His attorney has not publicly commented on the allegations.
