“Both of the first two modes, the Contingent within Essential and the Essential within Contingent, are about our encounter with the ancient mirror of our essential nature in its differing aspects. In the first mode we encountered the darkened mirror: an encounter with our timeless, vast, and undifferentiated nature, which is none other than the nature of Buddha. In the second mode, we encountered the clear, bright mirror of reality and experienced intimacy with the universe, in the guise of a star, a bell, or a flight of birds.”

Student: One thing I'm tying to understand is that at the earlier stages things are mortal and you are cutting through that.
Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche: You are cutting through that, yes.
S: And at some point, you cut through and you realize that everything is indestructible, or the sword breaks the suffering?
CTR: Yes. It is the same thing. At the tantric level, it doesn't prove anything: the cup breaks, okay, that's fine. The cup is broken, but it is still the activity of vajra. And the cup is still there: in its absence, it is also very much a cup, a vajra cup, as much as it is. It doesn't say anything very much. So what?
S: Do all things contain a glimpse of vajra in them, at whatever level of the path?
CTR: That is what tantric practitioners would say: that even at the early level, there is a vajra element. That element at the mahayana level is seen as impermanence and shunyata. Seeing the indestructibility is tantric-complete tantric practitioners' world.

I’m a little torn on what to do with this page, honestly. Im not a teacher, and even if I was, I can’t teach you anything here. None of these quotes really make sense until you practice, it’s just words on a screen. So I’m not really sure what it’s for.
