📈 Effects of Rupee Appreciation and Rupee Depreciation on the Economy
Appreciation - Reduces export competitiveness but lowers import costs and inflation.
Effects:
- Export decline,
- cheaper imports,
- lower inflation,
- trade deficit,
- reduced forex reserves.
Depreciation - Boosts export competitiveness but raises import costs and inflation.
Effect:
- Export boost,
- costlier imports,
- higher inflation,
- trade surplus,
- increased forex reserves.
🧠 How to never get confused: Remember these 5 elements. IE FIT (Import, Export, Forex, Inflation, Trade). The effects are just opposite in both cases on these elements. In Appreciation, everything declines, decreases etc and in Depreciation everything increases (again opposite to the name).
✅ Such basic Economic concepts are asked almost every year in Prelims. Do revise.

Even if the trend changes this year, it could change for one topic. So prepare accordingly. Number system is hot favourite. Don't miss.
