This alarming figure raises serious questions about the fairness and inclusivity of the selection process. The stringent requirement of stenography at 120 words per minute serves as a significant barrier, especially for non-stenography candidates, who will inevitably fail to qualify for the skill test. This not only further limits the selection pool but also means that genuine stenographers may not have the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities, leading to many advertised positions remaining unfilled. It is noteworthy that other examination bodies, such as the SSC for stenographers, select up to 30 times the advertised vacancies, allowing a wider pool of candidates to compete. This practice ensures that capable individuals are not unjustly excluded from the selection process. We urge the UPSC to revise its criteria and increase the selection ratio to at least 20 times the advertised vacancies. This adjustment is essential not only for fairness but also to ensure that deserving candidates have a legitimate opportunity to compete for these crucial positions.
