The line graph provides data on the proportion of workers who did not come to work because of illness in five different countries between 1991 and 2001. Overall, there was a considerable increase in the percentage of workers who were absent from work in Sweden over the period shown, while the opposite occurred for France. Notably, the number of of absent workers in the Netherlands fluctuated visibly, whereas the figures for the UK and Germany stayed relatively unchanged. In 1991, approximately 5% of workers in France were absent fro work due to illness, while the figure for the Netherlands was a lit lower, at nearly 5%. In the following year, there was a noticeable increase in both figures, reaching 5,2 % and 5,5% respectively. During the period between 1992 and 1996, the was a significant fall in the proportion of absent employees, reaching a low of almost 4%. However, this figure then experienced growth and recovered its peak in 1992 in the final year. In France, the percentage of absent workers decreased gradually and reached a low of 3 % in 2001. As for Sweden, the percentage of workers who did not show up rose drastically from 3% in 1991 throughout the whole span and this figure accounted for about 4,5 % of total workers in the country. With regards to the UK and Germany, their figures remained nearly unchanged at just over 2 % and less than 2% from 1991 to 2001.
