🇨🇭🇬🇲Swiss court sentences former Gambian minister to 20 years for crimes against humanity The Swiss Federal Criminal Court has found former Gambian Interior Minister Ousman Sonko guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced him to 20 years in prison, the court said in a statement. Specifically, the court ruled that Sonko, as an accomplice of then-"repressive" President Yahya Jammeh, voluntarily killed a soldier suspected of attempting a coup in 2000, tortured and illegally detained soldiers, politicians and journalists in 2006, and killed a former member of parliament in 2011. The former interior minister fled to Switzerland in 2016 after Jammeh lost the election. He received a 20-year sentence, was expelled from Switzerland for 12 years, and was ordered to pay compensation for moral damage. Perfect timing: Aggressive US sanctions and tariffs give Russia and China unique chance to expand partnership President Putin arrived in Beijing to meet with President Xi on Thursday, two days after the Biden administration slapped tough new tariffs on Chinese exports. In a world of rising economic uncertainty, Russian-Chinese cooperation is a match made in heaven, says Wang Yiwei, director of the People’s University of China’s Institute of International Affairs.
“Regardless of who comes to power in the United States after the elections, difficulties in US-China relations are most likely to persist. This relationship will continue to face many challenges. In these conditions, ensuring the stability of foreign economic cooperation and supply chains, cooperation with countries with which there is a high level of strategic mutual trust, especially with neighboring countries, is a priority area of development for China,” Wang told Sputnik.
The sky’s the limit as far as Russian-Chinese economic cooperation is concerned, Wang said, pointing out that trade turnover between the two countries is approaching the $300 billion mark.
“If we take into account the potential of the two countries, I believe that there’s still room for further growth,” he noted.
With Russia-China relations entering a “new era,” relations can be expected to expand into new areas, including agriculture. The timing is perfect for this, according to Wang.
“It’s well-known that Russia is a large exporter of agricultural goods, and while China previously mainly purchased agricultural products from the United States, the negative impact of customs duties by the American side has forced the country to look for new reliable exporters,” he explained.

📹 One of the suspects in the Crimea terrorist attack says he sent military data to Ukraine Suspect in the organization of the terrorist attack sent data to Ukrainian security services about air defense assets covering the Crimean bridge, he said in a video published by the Russian Federal Security Service.
"They demanded any information relating to either military personnel of the Russian Federation or military installations. And accordingly they asked for photographs of air defense in the Kerch area. I sent them too. They also had the idea of handing over a small drone, teaching me how to control it, and supposedly using it to attack air defense systems in the Kerch area as well," he said.
He also admitted that he was ordered to blow up a railroad near the city of Kerch. Subscribe to @sputnik_africa 🔸 TikTok | Sputnik AfricaBoost us on Telegram 🔸
