| 2 | Allah's Favour of Isnād [chains of transmission]
Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) said:
“The knowledge of isnād and narration is among the special distinctions with which Allah has favoured the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ, making it a means of reaching knowledge.
The People of the Book do not possess chains of transmission through which they can reliably transmit their reports. The same applies to the innovators among this Ummah who have gone astray.
As for the people of Islam and the Sunnah, Allah has blessed them with chains of transmission, by means of which they distinguish between what is authentic and what is weak, what is sound and what is defective, and what is straight and what is crooked.”

1. The first priority must be to instil correct belief and firm faith in the hearts of the believers, strengthening and firmly establishing them through every Islamically permissible means. This must be regarded as the foremost priority before occupying them with matters of refutation and debate with those who hold opposing views.
2. It is not appropriate for anyone to venture into the field of refuting opponents and dismantling doubts and misconceptions until they have acquired a substantial grounding in the knowledge of their religion and creed, and have sufficiently fortified themselves against being influenced by the very doubts and misconceptions they seek to refute. | 335 |
