| 4 | Supreme Court delivers split verdict on challenge to ECI appointments law. Justice Dipankar Datta said the ECI must not only be independent, but "appear to be independent". Justice SC Sharma held that the challenge raised a substantial question of law. The Bench directed the matter to be placed before the CJI for consideration by a larger Bench.
