Excellent Academic Agent video on the White Flight/Black Flight phenomenon concerning suburban decay. The general pattern of White Flight goes as follows: 1. High trust white community. Excellent schools and job opportunities. 2. Ethnic minority “pioneers” move in. The pioneers are often highly skilled and capable of assimilating into the high-trust suburb. Whites will often accept the pioneers. 3. The pioneers have children and invite their relatives to join them. The children/relatives will not adopt the high-trust culture and ghettoize the neighborhood. The critical mass of non-whites in a suburb is around 20% before the neighborhood enters its death spiral. 4. Trash in streets, rising crime, and declining school standards lead to an exodus of the more affluent whites. 5. Only the poor/elderly whites remain as the neighborhood becomes a diverse shithole with declining property values. Non-whites begin to leave for better (and whiter) neighborhoods.
