14 I want people to have the ability to be resilient in the face of adversity.
My biggest worry for all in this movement is how they cope with any information that goes against what they believed to be so.
Yet one thing we know about this movement is that not all is how it seems.
There will be many things that will come to light, some things will please us and other things won’t.
The current way of coping seems to be to castigate the person, to judge them harshly if it doesn’t fit with our own views.
How does emotionally dumping on someone else solve one’s own feelings? It doesn’t.
By directing hate, criticism or rejection at a person, how does that solve someone’s inability to regulate their emotions? It doesn’t.
Prioritising loyalty to a person and condemning anything that goes against our beliefs can bring resentment, discord and a belief that it is a betrayal.
Just because we feel that way doesn’t make it so.
When we strike out at others because we don’t like what we hear it reflects a difficulty in managing one’s emotions and reactions. It is often a protective defense.
Building resilience in navigating life’s challenges, setbacks, and realities will help us cope with any adversity, and thrive with the everyday ups and downs.
