German V. Iran Football match (2004) During the German national anthem the Iranian football fans stood and gave the Roman salute as a sign of respect to their German-counterparts. The history of German-Iranian relations is one that is typically not discussed or even overlooked. In 1936 Iranians were declared Pure-blooded Aryans and were excluded from the Nuremberg laws with Hitler himself declaring Iran to be an Aryan country and promising after the defeat of the Soviet Union all Persian lands taken by the Bolsheviks. Iranian railways were designed and built by German engineers. In 1939, the German Reich sent over 7,500 books advocating for collaboration between Aryan-Persians and the German people. Access to the Germanic Scientific Library and distribution of newspapers and nightly radio broadcasts were given to Iran.
