The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has released the Exposure Draft of the Proposed Syllabus 2027, marking a significant evolution in the education and training of Company Secretaries. This revision is driven by the need for innovation, competitiveness, and alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Major changes:
Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI): AI is embedded across the curriculum, specifically in business communication, digital governance, and corporate practice.
Experiential Learning: A fundamental shift in pedagogy introduces experiential learning as a vital element, proposing a weightage of 30% for applied competencies and 70% for written examinations.
Strategic Repositioning: The Professional Programme is alternatively titled the “Governance and Strategic Leadership Programme,” reflecting the expanding role of Company Secretaries as strategic advisors in governance, risk management, and sustainability.
Contemporary Relevance: The syllabus incorporates emerging themes such as Digital Personal Data Protection, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) integration, and international financial frameworks like IFSCA.
