Jail time for refusing to disclose passwords is called "rubber hose decryption". The longest, most entropy laden password in the world won't help you if you're facing 12 months on the wing with Jamal and Tyrone for refusing to give it up. More people need to become familiar with the concept of plausible deniability when applied to encryption. This focuses on the use of encrypted "hidden" volumes placed within larger "visible" volumes, with each volume having its own password. Save your spicier files, such as your rare translation of Oswald Spengler's manual on forbidden ninjitsu techniques, onto the "hidden" volume. Save something relatively innocuous to act as a bit of chicken feed (pirated anime and Jordan Peterson PDFs) onto the "visible" volume. When your door flies in at 4am for bullying Ben Shapiro, you then give up the password to the "visible" outer volume. Since the smaller "hidden" volume just appears like regular, but encrypted, free space on the outer volume, there's very little the police can do to prove there are other files in the encrypted container. Full on glowie outfits will probably have ways around this, but unless you're up there with Victor Bout you're probably not that juicy a target. Stay smart. Stay safe.
