Ultimate Spider-Man #4 di Jonathan Hickman, David Messina e Matthew Wilson è il numero make it or break it per la serie - o meglio, per i lettori della serie. Ultima occasione per scendere dal treno, per capire che le cose qui vengono fatte diversamente dagli anni '00, stazione definitiva per chi ormai ha deciso che resterà agganciato al binario per tutti i numeri della serie. Seduti a un tavolo, MJ e Peter incontrano Harry Osborn e consorte. Forte di una tensione naturale che coinvolge e parte anche solo dal nome di quattro personaggi storici per l'Uomo Ragno, anche qui il team creativo costruisce dinamiche inedite e stuzzicanti; quattro adulti a cena si confrontano, si studiano, si pesano parola per parola. Mentre Hickman pesa ogni punto e ogni virgola senza mai scadere nel prolisso, Messina abbraccia la griglia a nove: in un numero prettamente dialogico, è importante che tutti si muovano e recitino secondo il proprio ruolo e David riesce perfettamente a trasmettere quella sensazione.

Because the other name I have heard, of which Absolute Comics is a part, is DC All-In, the broader initiative Snyder and other creators have been working on. Make of that what you will. This is most definitely being seen as an attempt to do New 52 right, alongside a DC Rebirth with a more holistic approach. That the team on DC All-In are aiming to give fans something bold while leaving alone what's already working. And I expect to hear more, a lot more, at San Diego Comic-Con this year.. And I expect to hear more, a lot more, at San Diego Comic-Con this year. Announce in SDCC and launch for New York Comic Con maybe? But what I am hearing so far (and hey, my DMs are open), I like a lot. This feels like just what DC Comics needs to lift itself. Marvel has had Ultimate Comics, Image has had the Energon Universe of Transformers and GI Joe, and now DC Comics has Absolute Comics, for All-In.
