We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us for “Walking with Mary: Praying for Peace” at the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. Your presence and prayers helped represent our parish at this beautiful gathering of faith, unity, and peace.
We were especially grateful to see Bishop Evelio, who was delighted to see the Ethiopian community gathered for this special occasion. He spoke warmly about our community and has been a great supporter of the Ethiopian Catholic faithful, We are deeply thankful for his continued support, encouragement, and love for our community.
As a growing parish, we have an important opportunity to introduce ourselves to others, share our rich Ethiopian Catholic traditions, and strengthen our relationships with the wider Catholic community.
We encourage all our parishioners to participate in future invitations, gatherings, and special events. Every person matters, and every presence makes a difference. When we come together, we strengthen our parish, build lasting relationships, and make our community more visible and recognized.
May the Blessed Virgin Mary continue to intercede for us and guide our parish in faith, peace, and unity.

| 7 |  It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Brouke Tamrat beloved mother. She passed away peacefully, and Brouke has traveled to Ethiopia to be with her family and attend the funeral.
During this difficult time, we ask everyone to keep Brouke and her family in your thoughts and prayers. May God grant them comfort, strength, and peace as they mourn the loss of their beloved mother.
She was surrounded by the love of her children, grandchildren, and generations of family.
May God receive her soul with mercy and grant her eternal rest.

We are all invited to join the “Walking with Mary: Praying for Peace” celebration on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 11:30 AM–5:00 PM at the Seton Shrine in Emmitsburg, MD.
This will be a beautiful day of prayer, peace, music, fellowship, food, and a bilingual Mass. It is an important opportunity for our parish community to come together and represent our faith.
The drive is about one hour, so I kindly ask parishioners who have a car to please help those who need transportation. Let us come together as one community and make this a joyful and memorable day.

| 20 | The first is the Listening Session for African Catholics hosted by the ADW Office of Cultural Diversity and Outreach (OCDO). This listening session is an opportunity for African Catholics to share their experiences and express their needs and wants. The outcome of the session will aid OCDO in putting together a Pastoral Plan for ministering to Black Catholics in ADW. Our voices must be heard in this one because this Catholic Church belongs very much to us as to anyone else. I urge all pastors and chaplains to consider sending 5-7 representatives from your community to attend this important listening session. Please let your community be represented. The event will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 10am - 1pm at St. Mary in Landover Hills, MD. More details of the event are in the attached flyer.
The second is the celebration of Mary Mother of Africa on Saturday October 10, 2026 at 12:10pm at the Basilica. Our own Sis. Joanna Okereke worked very hard and received approval for this celebration to be an annual event on every second Saturday in October at the Basilica. We are grateful to the rector of the Basilica, Msgr. Rossi, for this opportunity, but we need to mobilize our people to participate. This year, we will simply join the 12:10pm Shrine mass and say the rosary with some reflections after the mass in the Our Lady of Lourdes chapel which is next to the smaller Mother of Africa chapel. Our hope is that if we have a good turn out this year, we can ask the Basilica to allow us more flexibility in shaping the mass of the day. Maybe we can provide a celebrant and homilist. I plead with you to encourage members of your community to participate in this celebration that will honor our Blessed Mother. The attached flyer contains more details.
