Holy Father

Christ, the New Adam, hangs crucified upon the Tree of Life. In the way that mankind was stained with original sin by Eve eating the forbidden fruit, the New Eve, Mary, will labor with Christ for our salvation through the fruit of his passion. The knowledge of good and evil brought death into the garden and so the New Adam and Eve came bearing fruit of the knowledge of salvation, plucked from the Tree of Life which have been produced through the labors and tribulations of the Holy Family. May you all have a fruitful and penitential Good Friday.

Today is a first class feast - the feast of Saint Joseph! If you're fasting for Lent you're encouraged to relax your fasting since today is a day of celebration. Saint Joseph, father of Christ and patron of the universal church, pray for us.

Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return

Fasting Rules for Lent 2026 all Catholics are obligated to observe: 1. On Ash Wednesday (Feb18) and Good Friday (Apr3), you can only eat one full meal and two smaller meals that do not add up to a full meal. Fasting more than that is advised as permitted by your state in life. 2. No Meat on all Fridays of Lent, including Ash Wednesday and Good Friday 3. If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the "paschal fast" to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection. Lent isn't just a time to remove things from your life that distract you from your relationship with God. You should also consider developing good habits that you will continue doing after Lent. They say it takes 30 days to form a habit so why not pick up a good one during Lent? Suggested penance that can help improve your Lent; 1. Fasting from Social media (only 30-60m total per day) 2. Black Fasts (no food) on all Fridays, as well as Ash Wednesday and Good Friday 3. Sleeping on the floor 4. No meat, dairy, eggs, or animal fats 5. No relaxing Lenten practices on Sunday 6. Limiting electronics or TV 7. Giving up hobbies such as video games, digital entertainment, or any other equivalent activity 8. No sugar, including sweet drinks 9. No drinks besides water Suggested additive practices to begin during Lent; 1. Attend at least an hour of adoration once per week (there are many perpetual adoration chapels in more dense populated areas) 2. Begin praying the rosary once a day 3. Attend mass during the week 4. Begin to develop reading discipline by reading at least one chapter or one hour a day of edifying literature (scripture, lives of saints, writings by doctors of the church, liturgy of the hours). 5. Adopt a new daily devotion, such as a chaplet or a prayer to a saint with whom you have a particular affinity 6. Attend vespers if it's available nearby 7. Plan a retreat at nearby priories with friends or family and make it a tradition. Very easy to set up if you look online in your area for Catholic retreats at priories.
