How deadly is a single Para SF commando of the Indian Army? You can well know how dangerous a single Para SF is by the fact that out of a 1.2 million strong Indian Army only a few select get a chance to wear the coveted maroon beret and the Balidaan Badge. And getting them is no cakewalk and you ought to be really really special if you want to earn them since they can’t be bought or got through a caste mark since there is no provision for reservation in Indian Armed Forces. I will cite two operatives here who have lived like legends and will be forever remembered as one of the best : Major Sudhir Kumar Walia: One of the Pirates of 9 Para SF, “The Rambo of Indian Army”, he was part of the IPKF in Sri Lanka , then combated militancy in Kashmir , commanded successful operations against Pakistanis in Kargil War and died a hero’s death on 29 August 1999 killing 9 terrorists out of 20 single handedly. He did many covert and overt operations in Kashmir and also behind the enemy lines and knew many languages like Pashtun and others. He was the real Red Devil and show what the best operatives are capable off ! Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami: A Pirate of 9 Para SF he killed 10 terrorists in Kashmir in just 11 days before being martyred. He successfully did 3 CI Ops in Kashmir in a span of just 11 days ! He died a hero’s death saving his fellow mates and killing terrorists. Both Maj.Sudhir Kumar and Lance Naik Mohan Nath were recipients of Ashok Chakra posthumously. Para SF men are not some sort of Rambo or “sarw-gun sampan” ( excelling in every role ) guy. They specialize in a particular set of skills. Some are trained as Combat Divers while some specialize in Combat Free-Fall. Some have intel gathering skills while some are specialized in sniping and other sort of skills. They don't conduct operations single-manned but are always part of a ‘HIT’ team with each operator specializing in a particular set of skill : weapons specialist , communication specialist , medic , Navigation specialist , demolition specialist and squad commander.
