Over 13,000 reels of telemetry data, medical readings, and high-definition footage — gone. They blamed a tape shortage in the 1980s. They said the tapes were degaussed and reused to save money. The most important achievement in human history. The most watched event on Earth. And they recorded over it to save on storage costs. That was the official story. A former NASA contractor, who worked in the Goddard Space Flight Center archives division between 1986 and 2003, broke silence in a sealed deposition filed with a congressional oversight inquiry. The deposition was not made public. But the summary was leaked. According to the summary, the deleted files did not only contain moon landing footage. They contained complete telemetry data from deep space probes that recorded anomalous structures on the lunar surface. Geometric formations. Repeating patterns.
