In Sahih Muslim (narrated) from Abū Qatāda Al-Ansāri - may Allāh be pleased with them both, The Prophet ﷺ: "Three from each month and Ramadhān to Ramadhān, this is fasting time, all of it Fasting the day of 'Arafāt, I seek from Allāh the expiation of the (sins of) the previous and coming year. 'Āshūrā I seek from Allāh the expiaton of (the sins of) the coming year. In another narration he ﷺ was asked about fasting the day of 'Arafat so he said: " it expiates the (sins of) the previous and coming year" and was asked about fasting the day of 'Āshūrā and said it: "It expiates (the sins of) the last year. • It is mustahab (recommended) to fast on the ninth day before it due to what has come in Sahih Muslim from the hadith of 'Abdul Allāh Ibn 'Abbās - may Allāh be pleased with him - he said: " Allāh's Messenger ﷺ fasted the day of 'Āshūrā and ordered for it to be fasted so they said: Oh Allāh's Messenger (ﷺ) indeed it is a day honoured by The Jews and The Christians". He said ﷺ: "Next year - if Allāh wills - we will fast the ninth day" and in another narration: "If I remain (alive) until the next (year) I will fast the ninth". He (Ibn 'Abbās) said: "So the next year did not come until (after) Allāh's Messenger (ﷺ) had passed away. •It has come in 'AlMu'jam AlKabīr' by Al-Tabarānī and 'Fadāhil Al-Awqāt by Al-Bayhaqī and was graded 'sahih' by Al-'Allāmah Al-Muhadith Al-AlBānī - may Allāh, the most high, have mercy upon him - from the hadith of 'Abdul Allāh Ibn 'Abbās - may Allāh be pleased with them both - he said Allāh's Messenger ﷺ said: "If Allāh wills that I remain alive until the next (year) I will fast the ninth out of fear that I will miss the tenth day. • It has come in The 'Musanaf' of 'Abdul Al-Razzaq Al-San'ānī and 'Shu'ab Al-Eman by Al-Bayhaqī - from (the narration of) 'Abdul Allāh Ibn 'Abbās - may Allāh be pleased with them both - he ﷺ said: "Oppose the Jews, fast the ninth and the tenth". And in The Sunan reported by Al-Shāfi'e: "Fast the ninth and the tenth and do not imitate The Jews. • It has come in Sahih Muslim from the narration of Al-Hakam Ibn Al-A'araj he said: "I reached Ibn Abbās - may Allāh be pleased with them both - whilst he was lowering his clothing in zamzam so I said to him: "Inform me about fasting 'Āshūrā" so he said: "When you see the moon of Muharam count and enter the ninth day fasting: so I said: "This is what The Prophet ﷺ used to do?" he said: "Yes". • Al-Hāfidh Ibn Rajab - may Allāh, the most high, have mercy upon him mentioned the benefit in 'Latāif Al-Ma'ārif that it has been reported from some of The Salaf that they would fast the ninth and the tenth out of fear of missing the tenth, like Ibn 'Abbās ' may Allāh be pleased with them both. • Imam Ahmad - may Allāh have mercy upon him said: "We fast them both and if there is a differing over the moon, fast three days just in case. • It was reported from Ibn Sirēn - may Allāh, the most high, have mercy upon him that he used to fast three days when there was a differing over the moon of the month (of Muharram) just in case. • It was reported from Ibn Ishāq - may Allah, the most high' have mercy upon him, that he fast the day of 'Āshūrā and a day before it and a day after it and said: "I only did that out of fear of missing it." • Al-Hāfidh Ibn Rajab - may Allāh, the most high, have mercy upon him mentioned the benefit in 'Latāif Al-Ma'ārif that a group of The Salaf did not desist from fasting 'Āshūrā even whilst travelling, from them Ibn 'Abbās, Abū Ishāq and Al-Zuhri and they used to say Ramadhan has many others days (in which it can be made up) whereas 'Āshūrā can be missed (i.e. cannot be made up). • Imam Ahmad specified that 'Āshūrā can be fasted whilst travelling. __ Compiled by our noble brother: Abul Al-Munthir Muhammad Ibn Mahyūb Al-Ta'izi Translated by: Abū Sufyān Sāmi Ibn Daniel Al-Ghāni Al-Britāni Original arabic text: https://t.me/AboAlmoonthrAlmleky/1337 Join the telegram channels: t.me/Striv4Jannah t.me/FruitsOfKnowledge

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم A Short Article Regarding 'Āshūrā (10th Muharam)📜 • It has come in The Sahih of Al-Bukhāri and Muslim from the hadith of Salamah Ibn Al-Akwah' - may Allāh be pleased with him - that The Prophet ﷺ sent a man from 'Aslam' to call out to the people on 'Yawm Al-'Āshūrā (10th Muharam): "Whoever has eaten must complete the the rest of his day (fasting) and whoever has not eaten must not eat - and in a narration 'must fast'. • In Sahih Al-Bukhāri and Muslim, from the hadith Rubayih' Bint Mu'awith - may Allāh be pleased with her - she said: "The Prophet ﷺ sent his messengers before sunrise on the morning of 'Āshūrā to the villages of The Ansār (saying) "whoever has enteted the morning fasting must complete his fast and whoever has not entered the morning fasting must complete the rest of his day (fasting)". She said: So after that we would fast it and make our young childrenfast and make for them a toy from wool and go to the masjid. But if any one of them would cry over food, we would not give that to him until the fast was broken. And in a narration: "But if they asked us for food we would give them a game to distract them until they complete their fast." • And in Sahih Al-Bukhāri and Muslim from the hadith of 'Abdullah Ibn 'Abbās - may Allāh be pleased with him - when The Prophet ﷺ found The Jews fasting 'Āshūrā (10th Muharam) when he arrived in Madinah, so he said to them: "What is this day you are fasting?". so they said: "This is a great day, Allāh saved Mūsā and his people on it and drowned The Followers of The Pharoah and his people so Moses fasted it out of thankfulness to Allāh, so we fast it - and in another narration: "Allāh granted victory to Moses and The Children of Isrāēl over The Pharoah so we fast it to honor it, so he said ﷺ: "I am more entitled to Moses than them" - and in another narration: "We have more right and are more entitled to Moses than them", and in another narration, he ﷺ said to his Companions: "You have more right to Moses than them so, fast it, you." He said: So he fasted it ﷺ and order for it to be fasted. • It has come in the The Sahih of Al-Bukhāri and Muslim from the hadith of 'The Mother Of The Believers' Umm Abdi Allāh 'Āisha Bint Abi Bakr The Truthful daughter of The Truthful, The Pure, The Purified, The Vindicated From above The Seven Skies - may Allāh be pleased with her, her father and the rest of The Companions - all of them - she said: "The Prophet ﷺ used to fast it, then when he made hijrah to Madinah he fasted it and ordered for it to be fasted before Ramadhān was obligated until Ramadhan was obligated, then after Ramadhān was obligated he said ﷺ: "Whoever wills may fast it and whoever wills may leave it." It has come in The Sahih of Al-Bukhāri and Muslim from the hadith of Mu'āwiyah Ibn Abī Sufyān - may Allāh be pleased with them both - he said: I heard Allāh's Messenger ﷺ say: "This is the day of 'Āshūrā and Allāh has not written upon you fasting it, but I am fasting, so whoever wills let him fast and whoever wills let him break his fast." And in another narration: "So whoever amongst you would like to fast, then let him fast, and whoever would like to break his fast, let him break his fast." In The Sahih of Al-Bukhāri and Muslim, from the hadith of 'Abdul Allāh Ibn 'Abbās - may Allāh be pleased with them both - he said: I did not see The Prophet ﷺ seek out the fasting of any day that he gave preference to over others more than this day, the day of 'Āshūrā, and this month: meaning the month of Ramadhan. In Sahih Muslim, 'Abdul Allāh Ibn 'Abbās - may Allāh be pleased with them both - was asked about fasting on the day of 'Āshūrā, so he said I do not know of Allāh's Messenger ﷺ having fasted a day seeking its virtue over (other) days except this day and no month except this month: meaning Ramadhān.

📚(سلسلة الهدى والنور ش/٣٣٧) ---------------------------------------- 🎙️Al-Alaamah Albani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: 📍"The ways of fasting Ashura are of two: First: That you fast the 10th and the 9th before it. Second: Or that you fast the 10th by itself. As the hadith, "Fast a day before it (Ashura) and a day after it" is weak. 📚Source: Silsilah Huda wa Nur the explanation on page 337 _________ ✍🏼 Translated by: Abu Yusuf Bilal ibn Howard Robinson
