﷽ Zakāh al-Fiṭr 1444/2023 Narrated by Ibn Umar may Allāh be pleased with him, the Messenger ﷺ ordered for the payment of one Ṣā’* of dates or one Ṣā’ of barley as Zakāh al-Fiṭr on every Muslim slave or free, male or female, young or old, and he ordered that it be paid before the people went out to offer the ‘Īd prayer. [Bukhārī and Muslim] *Four palmfuls taken with both hands Taalib is providing a service to the community by collecting and distributing the Zakāh al-Fiṭr. The contributions will be used to purchase/distribute rice in Nigeria before Ṣalāh al-‘Īd is established in the UK (20th / 21st April) InshāAllah. It was narrated from 'Ā'ishah -raḍhiyallāhu ‘anhā- that she said: "O Messenger of Allāh, what should I say in my supplication if I reach Laylatul-Qadr?" He said: "Say: 'Allāhumma innaka 'afuwwun tuḥibbul-'afwa, fa'fu 'anni (O Allāh, You are Forgiving and love to forgive, so forgive me).'" Reported by Tirmithī (8025) | graded "Ṣaḥīḥ" by Sheikh Albāni in Silsilah Aṣ-Ṣaḥīḥah __ There must be a reason why the Prophet ﷺ specified this du'ā, so let us reflect over these concise words... The word ‘Afw (pardon/wellbeing) entails: 1⃣ - wellbeing in one's limbs 2⃣ - wellbeing in one's religion 3⃣ - pardon and forgiveness from Allāh Wellbeing in one's limbs is cure and safety from all types of illness. Wellbeing in one's religion is being granted success to perform righteous deeds. Pardon & forgiveness from Allāh is that He overlooks and pardons one's sins by erasing them and not punishing him for them. Additionally, from the linguistic meanings of "Al 'Afw" is: increment and abundance. For example, ‘Afw in wealth refers to it’s increment, as Allāh ﷻ said: {یَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ مَاذَا یُنفِقُونَۖ قُلِ ٱلۡعَفۡوَ} “They ask you [O Mūḥammad ﷺ] what they should spend, Say, Al 'Afw” [Sūrah Al-Baqarah 219] i.e. that which is surplus to one's necessary expenditure. And Allāh's ‘Afw is that He grants a person what he asks for AND MORE. So let us increase in repeating this du'ā without slackening - especially during these blessed nights. The Night Of Jumu'ah & An Odd Night بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم Peace of advice for all. Tonight is an odd night of Ramadan 23rd. And it's Friday night also. The scholars - being from them ibnul-qayim and ibn Rajab - mention that if an odd night gathers with a night of jumuah then it's more likely to be the night of Qadar which is equivalent to thousand nights of worship. So we should strive harder in these blessed nights. Big chance for us all. Let's make the most of it inshallah. I ask Allaah to enter into His mercy and paradise and to save us from His anger punishment and he'll fire. { وَٱلَّذِینَ یَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا ٱصۡرِفۡ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَۖ إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَامًا (65) إِنَّهَا سَاۤءَتۡ مُسۡتَقَرࣰّا وَمُقَامࣰا (66) } And those who say: "Our Lord! REMINDER: Don't underestimate the obligatory prayers during these remaining nights, because Maghrib and 'Isha in congregation are the best prayers you can possibly offer during Laylatul Qadr. Yes, Qiyamul Layl will wipe away previous sins if offered with Eman and Ihtisaab, but it's always going to be second best when compared to Maghrib & 'Isha. Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu 'anhu narrated that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: ((أَفْضَلُ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الْفَرِيضَةِ صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ)) “The best prayer AFTER the obligatory prayer is the night prayer.” [Muslim] The most beloved deeds to Allah are the obligatory ones. https://sunnah.com/riyadussalihin:386 So without doubt, Maghrib -the 3 unit, 5 minute prayer- and 'Isha -the 4 unit, 7 minute prayer- are both equally better than the 11 unit, hour long Qiyamul Layl. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to discourage you from Qiyamul Layl, I'm only reminding you to show greater concern for the obligatory prayers; because for most of us, Maghrib Adhan is called and Salah is established, yet we're still at home digging into the Samosas and Pakoras, but when it comes to Qiyamul Layl, we're in the masjd scrambling for the front row. Furthermore, the Prophet ﷺ said: «مَنْ صَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَامَ نِصْفَ اللَّيْلِ وَمَنْ صَلَّى الصُّبْحَ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ فَكَأَنَّمَا صَلَّى اللَّيْل كُله» “If anyone prays 'Isha in congregation, it's as though he's prayed half of the night, and if anyone prays Fajr in congregation, it's as though he's prayed the whole night.” [Muslim] There's no point wearing yourself out in Tarawih and Tahajjud if you're going to miss Fajr❗️
