Two Saints

The Light of the World (1853): The Atmosphere: This is a study of two competing light sources: the warm, orange glow of a lantern and the cool, "blue dusk" of early dawn. The Effort: Hunt famously sat outside in a makeshift hut at night during the winter to observe how the lamplight hit the ivy and rusted door. He even traveled to Bethlehem just to find the "perfect sunrise" for the background Context: representing the figure of Jesus preparing to knock on an overgrown and long-unopened door, illustrating Revelation 3:20: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me"
