11 Some people think that it’s important to spend money on family celebrations (e.g. weddings, birthdays). But something expensive celebrations are a waste of money.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
There is a debate over how family celebrations should be organized, with some people emphasizing the importance of spending money on such events while others say it is merely a waste of resources. Although there are arguments justifying the extravagance, I believe substantial spending on family celebrations is unnecessary.
Some people think that family celebrations are rare opportunities. Such occasions often serve as a chance for family members to gather, share happiness, and create precious memories. In this context, spending money to create a celebratory atmosphere is seen as an investment in stronger family relationships. Weddings can be a pertinent example. Most people perceive them as once-in-a-life-time events, which could justify the tendency for people to spend extravagantly to ensure a lasting and memorable experience.
Such a practice, however, can create unnecessary financial burden and increase the risk of debt. In some cultures, family celebrations hold special significance and there is societal pressure on families to organize them regardless of their financial circumstances. While affluent individuals may not face significant challenges when organizing family celebrations, those from low-income backgrounds often struggle, leading them to resort to borrowing.
Therefore, I lean towards modest celebrations. In my opinion, forgoing traditional lavish ceremonies and opting instead for intimate gatherings, where the emphasis lies on the unity of the entire family is a much more sensible course of action. This is because the true value of the celebrations lies in the emotional closeness and human interaction, rather than how expensive the event is. People can opt for a modest backyard gathering, sharing meals and closeness among family members and this can provide an equally fulfilling, if not better, experience compared to a grand event.
In conclusion, lavish celebrations may sometimes play a role in strengthening family bonds as they are infrequent occasions. Despite this, I view this in a negative light as such events may lead to financial struggles. So, people should opt for smaller and modest celebrations instead.

13 The process by which wool is produced can be outlined in a number of consecutive steps. Overall, there are four main stages involved in the process. It starts with the initial collection of the wool from sheep, followed by spinning it to create year. The yarn is then formed into wool tufts, which are subsequently used in textile manufacturing. The majority of the process is completed manually.
The wool has to go through several steps before it forms yarn. Initially, the wool is sheared from sheep, which should be then washed to remove any impurities. Once dried, the wool is then twisted using a spinning wheel in order to create yarn. Alongside the yarn, there is typically some spinning waste, which is recycled.
The next stage of the process starts when the yarns are formed into tufts of wool and these are then stored. Using these stored tufts, different colored yarns of wool are produced, which can be used for either knitting or manufacturing other pieces of clothing and carpets.

19 The pictures show the process of making smoked fish. Overall, there are three main stages, starting with catching fish and transporting them, followed by smoking and packaging it, and finally further storing and distribution of the product to shops. It is also clear that the majority of the process is completely manually with relatively little equipment.
Before fish is smoked, it goes through multiple steps. First, the fish is caught using fishing nets and transported to the port. To keep it fresh, it is then frozen in a container. Once at the processing facility, the fish undergoes a thawing process in fresh water. After thawing, the fish is cut open to remove the unnecessary parts, including guts, intestines, and bones. The cleaned fish is then soaked in a salt water solution, which also contains some yellow coloring. Finally, the fish is ready to be smoked.
The next stage of the process begins when the smoked fish is packaged and then frozen at zero Celsius degree in a larger container. This container is kept in a cold storage before it is ready for distribution across fish shops, where it is finally sold to customers.

If you really struggle with matching and multiple choice questions, pick all the Cambridge practice tests from 13 to 18 and listen to part 2-3 and highlight how they eliminate the incorrect answers saying ‘but’.
It’ll probably take you a week or two to do this but you will start to understand how they change the flow of conversation using ‘but’. This can mean +2/3 correct answers!

Increasing production to meet the demands of a growing population is another challenge. Unlike traditional animal agriculture, which has well-established supply chains and infrastructure, transitioning to alternative methods requires building new production facilities and overcoming logistical hurdles to ensure a reliable supply.
Regarding medicine, the emergence of computer modeling seems to point towards a non-animal future for the industry. This alternative method involves using computers and artificial intelligence to stimulate biological systems, predict outcomes, and analyze the effects of drugs. This area too is still in its infancy and requires further development before being accepted as a mainstream approach to medicine.
Fashion and textile industries also made some strides in terms of reducing their reliance on animals. The use of synthetic materials, plant-based fibers and other sustainable alternatives has been promoted and adopted by many producers. However, luxury and high-end fashion sectors have traditionally used animal-derived materials as a symbol of luxury and exclusivity. For example, Chanel, a renowned luxury fashion brand, incorporates fur and exotic skins, such as alligator and snake, in their collections. This goes to show that eliminating animals from the textile industry in the near term is challenging.
In conclusion, there have been advancements in food, medicine, and clothing industries in terms of reducing animal use. While total elimination is a long-term goal, it is currently impossible to become completely animal free as it poses a number of challenges.
