Start with the problem. The US runs deficits of roughly 2 trillion dollars a year, and someone has to buy all those bonds. The old buyers are leaving the table: China has been reducing its Treasury holdings for a decade straight (a slow-motion geopolitical divorce), and Japan, the loyal old friend, finally has yield at HOME and only buys opportunistically these days.
So who stepped in? Officially, the “United Kingdom”. In reality, hedge funds and other levered fast-money managers booking their positions through London. The marginal buyer of the world’s most important bond market is no longer a patient pension fund or a central bank.. it is a trader with a repo line.

| 4 | How to be happy.
“What Has To Be True For This To Make Sense?”: You can rage at the system and walk around angry, or you can seek to understand and calmly get better results. (I really hate when dead philosophers claw their way out of the grave to demolish my favorite coping methods.)
Name That Feeling: As Dan Siegel says, “Name it to tame it.”
Overcome Emotions With Bigger Emotions: No matter how long you introspect, you’re never going to find a little lever in your brain that says “PULL TO BECOME LESS UPSET.” Get out of your head and go do something that has historically resulted in happy feelings.
Zoom Out: We’ve all dealt with the kind of overwhelm that makes you suspect life has a sense of humor, though not necessarily a nice one. Mentally step back and ask, “Will this matter in ten years?”

| 5 | Was watching this YouTube repair guy list out some of the best second hand laptop recommendations based on his perspective. They are the sweet spot in terms of price and grade.
Note these are US prices and not SG prices.
The top is for normal use and bottom if you are looking for comp that... maybe can game.
Turns out my X1 Carbon Gen 9 is his top pick. "It feels like a $3,000 laptop" which is also my feeling when I have it.
The video not too much value add, compare to his other videos (but his other video has more talk cock as well) | 1 118 |
| 6 | Something about whether there should be enough Salary Transparency within the company.
I think for most of us who are more junior to middle managers most of our career, we just want to put a number to those in management who talk a lot, cannot do the work, cannot move the needle but still receive a healthy paycheck.
It gets worse when those that really do meaningfully a lot of work are feeding those who could not execute.
——
Jobstreet by SEEK found that 77% of 1008 workers surveyed in Singapore want salary ranges disclosed internally, according to its salary report in 2026.
Another study, by Globalisation Partners, of 4,000 employed professionals across 6 markets including Singapore, found that 82% consider pay transparency important, while only 34% believe their organization practised it.
Indeed's latest data suggest that employers here are becoming less forthcoming about pay. In 2nd qtr 2026, only 15% of job postings on its portal included a salary range. | 962 |
| 7 | The other interesting new ETF from Vanguard UK's batch of release is Vanguard FTSE Global Small Cap UCITS ETF or VSML.
We finally have an index tracking fund that covers the Develop + Emerging markets small caps.
I have odd readers asking if there are such in the past. Now we have one.
I also did explain how you can weave this into your portfolio, and roughly how much small cap is appropriate.

| 8 | "I’m long past believing that private equity is the smartest money in the room or anything. They’re just as prone to cyclical behavior and buying at the top as the rest of us! However, I think they can serve as a very useful signal in industries and theses where there is one obvious and very diligence-able bear point.
Why?
Because private equity has nearly unlimited due diligence budget to throw around running surveys and doing expert interviews to resolve how particular issues are trending. And they also have access to internal data (how their own portfolio companies are spending or responding to a risk) that no one else has.
And private equity doesn’t just need to get comfortable with risk points on their own. Because they generally need to raise debt for take privates, private equity needs to get lenders comfortable that there is real downside protection in these businesses. It’s one thing for a private equity firm to buy a company at a cheap multiple that’s facing terminal value questions (as SaaS is with AI). If they’re wrong, they could have a zero on their hands, but if they’re right they could have multi-bagger upside, so they can take a coin flip chance of a company going bust if the upside is high enough. In contrast, a lender’s upside is limited to their interest payments, so they’re going to be much more concerned with downside protection in a worst case scenario.
Put the two together, and I’d suggest that both the private equity firms and the lenders have internal data and due diligence metrics that have gotten them very comfortable with the terminal value risk for these companies. That’s not to say that they’re right or wrong, particularly if the AI trade accelerates even faster than it already has! It’s just that they’ve gotten comfortable with a very obvious risk, which suggests that (at worst) it’s been priced in and (at best) that the risk is diminishing.
So what’s the playbook from here? My guess is that SaaS is going to be a stock picker’s paradise for the next few quarters. There’s no doubt that some of these businesses are going to be heavily disrupted by AI, and those stocks will bleed out…. but there are plenty of businesses that are still trading at reasonable multiples that will be AI beneficiaries and potential PE takeout plays that the market is still skeptical of. As always, I’m sifting through possible candidates for this, and I may write some up in the near future.... but my inbox is always open if you have any candidates you think are worth looking at that you’d like to swap notes on!" | 1 016 |
| 9 | I remember that Tepper called close to the bottom of the Chinese companies in 2024. He told CNBC that he would be buying “everything” China-related, including ETFs and futures. Chinese companies were undervalued, he argued, because they had “double-digit growth” but “single-digit” P/E ratios.
BABA and JD were large holdings. I remember glancing at Appaloosa's 13F filling that these Chinese holdings were much smaller. I was right.
Tepper's holdings today look so much different than 2 years ago.
Dabbling in individual stocks is less important for me nowadays, but if it is important to you, would you buy something because someone with a good analytical head(s) like Appaloosa did it?
Do you invest in the same timeframe as them? This is what I feel you may be missing. That great investors are all buy and hold investors. That all these purchases are great companies at cheap prices.
These companies can be but their strategy may... not be similar to yours.
Now they don't own it, what would you do? | 1 091 |
| 10 | This slide from WeBull's result is interesting in that it breaks down the interest related income. A fair bit is earned on client's cash. | 951 |
| 11 | Saw some negative comments regarding Walmart's earnings misses. I think we also have to contextualize that Target also release their earnings and both topline and bottomline did well.
Target's mix is more barbell in the less than $25,000 earners and above $100,000 earnings. More youngsters and suburban.
I think it is a good proxy to assess something.
Also interesting that return is 70% this year.

| 12 | This is a chart of PSCE or Small cap energy ETF. I think it is good to note that the value starts appreciating BEFORE Iran take place.
In a certain sense, energy has been shit for a while. Nowadays if I feel like shit, I take note, because it is often capitulation. Everyone would feel like shit and sell to feel better.
The price have held up.
I think market is saying... you are underestimating how well energy can do in the future and think all this is just a one time energy spike. | 986 |
| 13 | Vanguard Europe just launched a few new ETFs and one of them is the FTSE Global All-Cap UCITS ETF (VALL). It covers developed and emerging, and consist of large cap, mid cap and small cap stocks.
Priced really competitive at 7 bps.
