◇ This was the first pipeline constructed to india to bring crude oil from naharkatia oilfield to Nunmati.
□ Mumbai high – Mumbai – Ankleshwar-Koyali pipeline
◇ Pipeline connects oilfield of Mumbai high and Gujarat with oil refinery at Koyali.
□ Salaya – koyali – Mathura pipeline
◇ Important pipeline has been laid from salya in Gujarat to Mathura in UP via viramgram.
□ Hajira-Bijapur-Jagdispur (HBJ) gas pipeline.
◇ Constructed by gas authority of india to transport gas. It connects Hazira in MH to Bijapur in MP and jagdishpur in UP.
□ Jamnagar – Loni LPG pipeline – constructed By GAIL
◇ Connects Jamnagar in Gujarat to Loni near Delhi in UP and passes through the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and UP.
□ Kandla- Bhatinda Pipeline
◇ 1,331km long pipeline has been constructed for transporting crude oil to oil refinery at Bhatinda. Constructed by IOC.

Pipelines are the most convenient, efficient and economical mode of transporting liquids like petroleum, Petroleum products, natural gas, water, milk etc. even solids can also be transported through pipelines after converting them into slurry.
□ ADVANTAGES
◇ They are ideally suited to transport the liquids and gases.
◇ Pipelines can be laid through difficult terrains as well as under water.
◇ It involves very low energy consumption.
◇ It needs very little maintenance.
◇ Pipelines are safe, accident – free and environment friendly.
□ DISADVANTAGES
◇ It is not flexible – can be used only for a fixed points.
◇ Capacity cannot be increased after it laid.
◇ It is difficult to make security arrangements for pipelines.
◇ Underground pipelines cannot be easily repaired and detection of leakage is also difficult.

The basin and delta regions of the Godavari, the Krishna and cauvery river hold great potential for oil and and gas production.
□ TAMIL NADU
• Produces less than the one per cent of the total production. The narimanam and Kovilappal oilfields in the cauvery on-shore basin are expected to produce about 4 lakh tonnes of crude oil annually.
□ ANDHRA PRADESH
• Oil fields have recently been discovered in the Krishna-Godavari basin. The oilfield near Amolpur is expected to yield 3,600 barrels of crude oil per day.
