I replaced a $20,000 rabies vaccine to a hospital, and they destroyed it so they could charge me the full bill Last year I got bit by a stray dog in a park and had to go to the hospital to get the post exposure rabies vaccination. It's a series of 4 shots but the first shot (rabies immune globulin) runs about $19-20k. The manufacturer of the vaccine (Grifols) has an assistance program where if you qualify they will replace the vaccine to the hospital. And so given I am low income and uninsured, I apply, go to the hospital to have the nurse navigator and prescribing doctor sign on all the application documents, and am approved. The manufacturer lets the hospital know they are sending the replacement vaccine and send it to their pharmacy dept. And so I breathe a huge sigh of relief, thinking this $20,000 bill has been cleared. Come to find out the vaccine arrives, pharmacy coordinates with the hospital, hospital suddenly decides it is not in their policy to accept replacement vaccines, and they destroy and dispose of it and go back to charging me the full amount of the bill... -__- https://redd.it/1v4u4x6 @r_mildlyinfuriating
