Iran is blaming the U.S. saying “One of the main culprits of yesterday’s tragedy is the United States, which ... embargoed the sale of aircraft and aviation parts to Iran and does not allow the people of Iran to enjoy good aviation facilities." Meanwhile, the helicopter was flying in mountainous territory in dense fog. I am sure there will be all sorts of wild speculation going on here but it just takes some black magic and a foggy terrain, a little user error and voila, tragedy strikes, no need for a dramatic storyline. "As a former officer in the Canadian Forces myself I would like to share a comment by my colleague who spent 24 years serving his country . "As a military veteran of 24 years I can assure you that there's nothing normal about the upcoming "door knocking" by the military for training. The job of the Canadian Armed Forces is to protect Canadians from outside threats, not conduct "wellness checks" on citizens. Someone mentioned how normal it is because the military was out shoveling snow in Toronto after a big storm. Fine, yes, the military can step up and help if required but they don't waste time "training" for these things. If so, you'd see the military out training for snow shoveling in Toronto from time to time. In this case, if it's such a normal thing for the military to descend on small towns to lay out body bags and conduct "wellness checks", we would've seen it before. Just like shoveling snow after a storm, this is NOT the mandate of the Canadian Armed Forces nor is it something that requires a huge training exercise. As such, everyone should be asking what their purpose is here. Well, the purpose is to normalize the sight of military in our streets. It's to normalize military going around pounding on people's doors. It's to create fear by laying out body bags in parking lots. It's to normalize the sight of martial law, to create a subliminal level of fear and intimidate those who are aware of the tyrannical nature of our current NDP/Liberal government. I know this may sound hyperbolic but please keep in mind, our government has already suspended all of our basic human rights through the Emergencies Act because of a peaceful protest in Ottawa. Is it really that far-fetched to identify this exercise as ordered by the government for the purpose of intimidation and normalization of the site of martial law? If you feel unsettled by this upcoming training exercise, know that your feelings are justified and that you're not alone. Up until about 5 years ago, the authorities and military would've known better. The military and government has recently turned their intelligence, surveillance and propaganda apparatus inwards on Canadian citizens and it's one of the main reasons I retired.
