Powered by the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU featuring 24 cores and threads, the new Serval WS laptop features a brand-new 16-inch display with 2560x1600 (2K) resolution, 240Hz refresh rate, and 16:10 aspect ratio, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics, up to 96GB of DDR5 5600 MHz RAM, and up to 12TB PCIe 5.0 and 4.0 storage. The new Serval WS laptop also features 2.5 GbE Ethernet, WiFi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, a multitouch touchpad, a multi-color backlit chiclet US QWERTY keyboard, Thunderbolt 4 and HDMI (with HDCP) video ports, a 5.0MP HD camera, a 2-in-1 audio Jack for headphone and microphone, and a microSD card reader. As with all of System76's laptops, the new Serval WS comes pre-installed with the company's in-house Pop!_OS Linux 22.04 LTS distribution based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, or with the newer Ubuntu 24.04 LTS operating system. System76 is still working on the upcoming COSMIC desktop environment written in Rust and Pop!_OS Linux 24.04 LTS. [su_quote]"System76 is working on COSMIC, their new open source desktop environment created for Pop!_OS. COSMIC is soon entering the beta phase. Once cleared for release, users can look forward to more battery life, cooler temperatures, more features, and an overall intuitive software experience," said System76.[/su_quote] You can configure and buy the new Serval WS Linux laptop right now from System76's online store. The price starts from $2,999 USD for the basic configuration with 32 GB DDR5 5600 MHz RAM and 1 TB PCIe4 SSD storage. Shipping will begin in late May 2025. Linux Mint leader Clement Lefebvre revealed today the codename of the next release of the popular, Ubuntu-based Linux Mint distribution, Linux Mint 22.2 “Zara”, along with the codename for LMDE 7. Linux Mint 22.2 “Zara” will be based on Canonical’s long-term supported Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) operating system series, just like the Linux Mint 22 series. The Linux Mint project leader also unveiled the codename of the upcoming LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) 7 distribution as "Gigi". While Linux Mint 22.2 will pretty much look and feel exactly like Linux Mint 22.1 "Xia", the team plans to improve the default Mint-Y theme by adding a little bit of blue to "make grey slightly more metallic looking and appear more modern", according to Clement Lefebvre. [su_quote]"Pure grey is neutral, it can be perceived as cold or warm based on its surroundings. By bumping the blue we force it to look cold," said Clement Lefebvre. "Another reason this makes the UI look more modern is because this is done a lot nowadays, but it wasn’t done so much 10 years ago. Like with all new trends, sticking to past standards can make things feel outdated."[/su_quote] Also for Linux Mint 22.2, the devs plan to add support for accent colors to the XDG Desktop Portal XApp to change the accent color in Flatpak libAdwaita applications based on your current GTK theme. This is supposed to work not only in the flagship Cinnamon edition, but also on the MATE and Xfce editions. Linux Mint 22.2 "Zara" will probably be released in June or July 2025. It will probably still be powered by Linux kernel 6.8, just like its predecessors, Linux Mint 22.1 and Linux Mint 22. However, since Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS comes with Linux kernel 6.11 from Ubuntu 24.10, users will be able to install the newer kernel if they want to. . . ? @sysadminoff https://www.opennet.ru/opennews/art.shtml?num=63205

The Raspberry Pi Foundation announced today a new version of their Debian-based Raspberry Pi OS Linux distribution for Raspberry Pi computers that introduces some new features, better touchscreen handling, and various Wayland improvements. The new Raspberry Pi OS release improves screen locking by adding a custom front end that gives them a bit more feedback as to what is happening, while allowing them to lock the screen by pressing Ctrl+Alt+L, or by via the 'Lock Screen' option in the ‘Shutdown…’ dialog. There's also a new Printers app that lets you connect to and control printers, as a replacement for the system-config-printer application. Moreover, the new Raspberry Pi OS release promises better handling of touchscreens in a Wayland environment by allowing users to choose between mouse emulation or native touchscreen behaviour via Touchscreen > Mode in the Screen Configuration app. [su_quote]"The main disadvantage of no longer using mouse emulation is that it isn’t possible to double-click by tapping the screen twice, and this makes navigation in the file manager rather difficult," said Simon Long. "There are a couple of workarounds specific to the file manager: you can enable ‘Open files with single click’ in the file manager preferences, or use a tap-and-hold to open the context-sensitive menu and then choose ‘Open’."[/su_quote] Moreover, touchscreen users will get an updated Squeekboard virtual keyboard that lets them choose the screen on which it is shown when using multiple monitor configurations via the Display tab on the Raspberry Pi Configuration app. Among other noteworthy changes, the new Raspberry Pi OS release separates console (CLI) and desktop auto login options, allowing users to choose between them in the Raspberry Pi Configuration and raspi-config apps, updates the default Labwc window manager for Wayland to a newer release (v0.8.1), and bumps the kernel to the long-term supported Linux 6.12 LTS series. This release also optimizes the startup of the wf-panel-pi application that's in charge of the taskbar in the Wayland session, which leads to faster boot times, and prevents the zenity tool from creating prompts and dialogs from the command line, which leads to faster startup times. You can download the new Raspberry Pi OS release right now from the official website. Raspberry Pi OS supports all Raspberry Pi models, including Raspberry Pi 1A+, 1B+, 2B, 3B, 3B+, 3A+, 4B, 400, CM1, CM3, CM3+, CM4, CM4S, Zero, Zero W, and Zero 2 W. Existing Raspberry Pi OS users need only to update their installations by running the sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade commands below in a terminal emulator or by using the built-in graphical package updater. If you're system is up-to-date, you're running the latest Raspberry Pi OS version (2025-05-06). OpenAI Codex CLI is a new open-source command-line tool that integrates AI models into any terminal. It enables you to generate, edit, and execute code using natural language prompts. I tested Codex CLI on Windows and Mac and concluded that it is no match for advanced AI CLIs such as Warp, Cline, or Roo Code.
