In this modeled study, life expectancy was compared among 18-year-old youth with perinatally acquired HIV, youth with nonperinatally acquired HIV, and youth without HIV.
This study aimed to compare the effects of DTG-based and EFV-based regimens on the MTCT of HIV among HIV-exposed infants in Ethiopia.
Experts are working on novel immune-enhancing therapies called host-directed therapies to use the body's own immune system to target tuberculosis, with hopes that they could tackle even the drug-resistant ...
Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) with a weekly oral regimen of antiretroviral drugs could be a suitable preventative option for individuals who struggle with daily PrEP or prefer not to use long-acting injectables. We assessed in macaques the efficacy of weekly oral tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) at doses of 13.7 or 27.4 mg/kg. Macaques received weekly oral TAF for six weeks and were exposed twice-weekly to SHIV vaginally or rectally on day 3 and 6 after each dose. Median TFV-DP levels in PBMCs following the 13.7 mg/kg dose were 3110 and 1137 fmols/106 cells on day 3 and 6, respectively. With the 27.4 mg/kg dose, TFV-DP levels were increased (~2-fold) on day 3 and 6 (6095 and 3290 fmols/106 cells, respectively). Both TAF doses (13.7 and 27.4 mg/kg) conferred high efficacy (94.1% and 93.9%, respectively) against vaginal SHIV infection. Efficacy of the 27.4 mg/kg dose against rectal SHIV infection was 80.7%. We estimate that macaque doses of 13.7 and 27.4 mg/kg are equivalent to approximately 230 and 450 mg of TAF…
Germline-targeting immunogens hold promise for initiating the induction of broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) to HIV and other pathogens. However, antibody-antigen recognition is typically dominated by heavy chain complementarity determining region ...
Hepatitis B Core antibody (HBcAb) positivity is the surrogate marker of hepatitis B occult infection. This condition is not a contraindication for switching to two-drug (2DR) antiretroviral therapy; however, the removal of tenofovir may contribute to ...
mes based on electronic health records for a cohort of 375 young adults with PHIV enrolled in routine HIV care at clinics contributing data to the North American AIDS Cohort Collaboration on Research and Design (NA-ACCORD) Methods: We estimated overall, sex-, and race-stratified cumulative incidences using Turnbull estimation, and incidence rates using quasi-Poisson regression. T2DM was defined as glycosylated hemoglobin >6.5% or based on clinical diagnosis and medication use. Hypercholesterolemia was based on medication use or total cholesterol ≥200 mg/dL. Hypertriglyceridemia was based on medication use or fasting triglyceride ≥150 mg/dL or non-fasting ≥200 mg/dL. Hypertension was based on clinical diagnosis. CKD was defined as estimated glomerular filtration rates <90 ml/mi|1.73 m2 for ≥3 months. Results: Cumulative incidence by age 30 and incidence rates from age 18 to 30 (per 100 person-years) were: T2DM: 19%, 2.9; hypercholesterolemia: 40%, 4.6; hypertriglyceridemia: 50%, 5.6; hypertension: 22%…
Switching from tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) to the older formulation of tenofovir disoproxil (TDF) resulted in modest weight loss in people with HIV in the Swiss HIV Cohort, researchers report in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases. Switching from TAF to TDF also brought benefits in the forms of reduced cholesterol and triglycerides. In contrast, switching from TAF-containing treatment to a two-drug combination of dolutegravir/lamivudine or injectable cabotegravir/rilpivirine did not lead to any changes in weight.
