And he (ie: ʿUbayd Allah b. ʿUmar) also narrated, that he (ie: Abū Ḥāzim) said: “Two things, if you were to act upon them you would achieve the goodness of this world and the hereafter - and I will not be long winded.”
It was said to him: “And what are they?”
He said: “Bear what you dislike if it is beloved to Allah and abandon what you love if it is disliked by Allah.”
al-Ḏahabī, Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ 6/98
The heart gets sick as the body does and its cure is in asking for forgiveness and protection. It also becomes rusty like a mirror does and it is polished by remembering Allāh. The heart can also be naked like by the body and can lose its dress and decoration, which is piety, and it can feel hungry and thirst like the body does and its nourishment is knowledge, love, trust, and offering service to Allāh.
— Al-Fawāʾid by Imām Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah

[The one drowning in desires]
These words by Imām Ibn al-Jawzī رحمه الله struck me and hit me hard.
Words to reflect and weep over!

If you look back, you'll see that every situation that Allah has brought you into, has either changed you, helped you grow, made you stronger, taught you a lesson, or made you a better person. Everything He does, has a purpose.
In part of his explanation of the Qur'ān Al-Ḥafiẓ Ibn Kathīr mentioned:
[قال بشر بن الحارث الحافي رحمه الله: لو تفكَّر الناس في عظمة الله تعالى لما عصوه.]
Bishr Ibn al-Ḥārith al-Ḥafi said, "If people were to contemplate the greatness of Allāh, they would not disobey Him."
[Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr 2/185]
Imām Ibn Al-Qayyim رحمه الله stated:
"The truthful person awaits the relief (from the hardships in life), and he doesn't despair from the mercy of Allāh."
[Madārij As-Sālikīn 3/122]
Ask yourself, what is a sin/bad deed you keep falling into? How can you train yourself and your nafs to be more mindful of Allāh ﷻ and stay away from that bad deed?
Ibn Qayyim رحمه الله said:
"Calamities, trials and tests are signs of love from Allāh for the believers. They are comparable to a cure; although it may be bitter, you accept it because it is from the one whom you love; and to Allāh belongs the best example."
[Ighāthatul Lahfan p. 286]
