Summary: 10 FACTS EVERY SERVING CORPERS SHOULD NOTE WHILE STILL SERVING This evening we explored a summarised look of the whole series, of things to note while still serving or fresh ex corp members especially for our current economy climate: Series 1 1. Early Job Hunting: Start applying for jobs before completing NYSC to avoid delay. 2. Skill Enhancement: Stand out with additional skills, especially with a 2:2 or third class. Series 2 3. Networking Myth: Connections aren't always necessary for job entry; focus on qualifications. 4. Entry Routes: How you enter a company affects your future prospects and benefits. Series 3 5. Email Application Tips: Use PDFs, cover letters, and personalized emails for effective applications. 6. Referral Strategies: Understand the importance of Cc vs. Bcc in referrals for job applications. Series 4 7. Hidden Job Market: Many jobs are not advertised; connect directly with companies for opportunities. 8. Master's Degree Considerations: Strategically evaluate pursuing a Master's degree immediately after NYSC. Series 5 9. Optimized CVs: Use keywords in your CV for optimization software used by employers. 10. Proactive Job Hunting: Treat job hunting as a full-time job, be proactive, and persistent in seeking opportunities. Cc Posted: @nyscmembers Like we said in the first series, everyone will sooner or later pass out of national service even if you are just registering. So considering and sharing this might not be all bad. Together we are better informed

10 FACTS EVERY SERVING CORPERS SHOULD NOTE WHILE STILL SERVING series 4 Happy Sunday everyone, we are slowly getting to the end of this series as there is only one more FACT 7 7. Most of the available jobs are not usually advertised No matter how thoroughly you search for job openings on online job portals,  job agencies,  newspapers ads or even on the company's website -  whatever jobs you find that way is only 15 percent of what's available. only 15 percent!!! That's because 85 percent of jobs are never publicized. This is absolutely true,  and done for good reasons. The employers try to avoid the painful and costly process of sorting through the thousands of mostly crappy applications that follow any publicized job opening,  so they would rather use other means of hiring the right people that don't require public advertisement. The fact that you don't see any job openings doesn't mean a company is not hiring. So you can connect directly and can convince the company that your are the right person. You…

Congratulations to all 2023 Batch B stream 1 passing out of service. 🎉🎊 It indeed a time that mark the final beginning of Adulthood for many Nigeria youths and the wider beginning of life. Even in this difficult economy times in Nigeria. I want to take an extract from this harvard commencement speech and hope it resonate with you; ...From time to time in the years to come; I hope you will be treated unfairly, so that you will come to know the value of justice. I hope that you will suffer betrayal because that will teach you the importance of loyalty. Sorry to say, but I hope you will be lonely from time to time so that you don’t take friends for granted. I wish you bad luck, again, from time to time so that you will be conscious of the role of chance in life and understand that your success is not completely deserved and that the failure of others is not completely deserved either. And when you lose, as you will from time to time, I hope every now and then, your opponent will gloat over your failure. It is a way for you to understand the importance of sportsmanship. I hope you’ll be ignored so you know the importance of listening to others, and I hope you will have just enough pain to learn compassion. Whether I wish these things or not, they’re going to happen. And whether you benefit from them or not will depend upon your ability to see the message in your misfortunes. *To end this on a brighter note for the newly ex Corp members; May your hands always be busy May your feet always be swift May you have a strong foundation When the winds of changes in Nigeria or wherever you find yourself shift May your heart always be joyful May your song always be sung And may you stay forever young. Thank you. 🌟 Source: John Roberts Posted: @nyscmembers Together we are better informed

10 FACTS EVERY SERVING CORPERS SHOULD NOTE WHILE STILL SERVING series 5 Happy democracy day to everyone. Today we concluded this long series FACT 9 9. Some of your CVs never get read by the employers Some companies use what is called an optimization software to scan through thousands of CVs looking for keywords. Any CV that doesn't have some keywords they are looking for get trashed. Only after they finish optimization does a human being now start looking at the CVs remaining one by one. So read the requirements, and optimize your application to get in Finally... FACT 10 10. Getting a job is a full time job! Allow this point to sink into your head! If you are unemployed right now, you need to employ yourself into a new job called - GETTING A JOB When something very important to you gets missing in your house, how do you search for it please? You check under the table, inside your room, the toilet, you turn everywhere upside down, so you might need to start telling your uncle, Pastor/Imam, Friend, changing location etc.. Is that correct? So why is it that when its time to look for a job we do it with some lackadaisical attitude? My dear, Nigeria is hard! Even harder now!! To get a job especially a good one, especially at this current macro economics time that there is a lot of companies are leaving Nigeria. You have to be violent about it. You have to attend seminars, ask questions, join @afternysc, be nice to everyone, apply here and there..as in let it be serious! You don't get a job by watching Africa Magic, or BBN unless you want to get a role there You don't get a job by going to cinema house every weekend You don't get a job by knowing all the series, and unavailable online, where it matters. No way! Getting a job is serious business. Sentiment apart, we are always on the group are rooting for everyone reading this. Thanks, if any part of this series have been of any help to you, kindly share with others. Cc Edited Posted: @nyscmembers 1,  2,  345 Together we are better informed

Yet another new week. While we still celebrate with 2022 Stream 2 for a successful passing out of service. Yet what might not be clear to many "is what next?", the truth is that this answer, is not same for everyone. Though we all need to figure it out, and as long as we want to take one step at a time, every Corper will get to this point sooner or later. To begin this series note in whatever you shot for, aim for the sky. 10 FACTS EVERY SERVING CORPERS SHOULD NOTE WHILE STILL SERVING series 1 FACT 1 1. Waiting to be done with NYSC before you begin to seriously apply for a job is one of the greatest mistakes you don't ever want to make. This is one mistake many of us make or are about to make. You may nearly slap yourself if you wait till then. In fact before you finish NYSC you should have applied for at least 20 jobs and attended at least 2 interviews, that’s the mindset of a serious job seeker. Except you have a job waiting for you somewhere. Sha. (Join our "afternysc" group if you are looking for somewhere…

RE: BATCH "B" ONLINE REGISTRATION DISRUPTION (UPDATE) It has come to the notice of NYSC Management of a Press Release purportedly issued by the National Youth Service Corps, conveying plan to extend the registration date in respect of 2024 Batch "B" Orientation programme. Management hereby states that the said release, signed by one Samad Abdullahi, and unsuspectingly quoted by some bloggers as originating from the Scheme is fake and did not originate from NYSC. For the purposes of information, the NYSC registration portal experienced a glitch on Saturday 8th June, 2024. Prospective Corps Members were immediately notified of the problem in the NYSC portal. When the issue was rectified, registration by Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) continued on the same day. Upon reaching the maximum number of PCMs required for the incoming batch in line with the carrying capacities of the 37 NYSC Orientation Camps nationwide, the portal was shutdown accordingly. While apologising to the PCMs who could not register for Service before registration was discontinued, Management wishes to assure them that the portal will reopen for 2024 Batch "B" Stream II on a date that will be announced later. Criminally-minded individuals who have the penchant of issuing fake press releases on NYSC operations are warned to desist forthwith, as anyone caught will be handed over to the Law enforcement agents for prosecution. Online reporters and bloggers are please expected to confirm the authenticity of issues with NYSC before publishing.
