These infections include throat and skin infections like strep throat, scarlet fever, and impetigo. PSGN usually does not follow strep infection of the kidneys. Instead PSGN results from the body's immune system fighting off the group A strep throat or skin infection. The disorder is common in children between 5-12 years of age.
