سبب استخدام الكلورهيكسيدين (CHX 2%) قبل وضع البوند عندنا شيء يُسمى Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs)، وهي عبارة عن إنزيمات موجودة داخل الدنتين. هذه الإنزيمات يتم تنشيطها عندما نستخدم الـ acid etch على الدنتين أثناء خطوات البوند. تأثير هذه الإنزيمات: عند تنشيطها، تبدأ الـ MMPs بتكسير ألياف الكولاجين الموجودة في طبقة الدنتين، وهذا يؤدي مع مرور الوقت إلى: • ضعف الرابطة بين البوند والدنتين. • حدوث degradation في البوند. • انخفاض عمر ومتانة الالتصاق (longevity of the bond). الحل: حتى نتجنب هذه المشكلة، بعد ما نضع الـ acid etch ونغسله جيداً، نستخدم قطنة مبللة بالكلورهيكسيدين 2% ونمسح بها التجويف (cavity) لمدة 60 ثانية. فائدة هذه الخطوة: الكلورهيكسيدين يعمل على تثبيط إنزيمات MMPs أو حتى إيقاف نشاطها.هذا يؤدي إلى زيادة عمر البوند (bond longevity). • يحافظ على قوة الالتصاق بين البوند والدنتين لفترة أطول
