Rome Invests €116.7 Million in Cleaner Buses The city of Rome is pivoting to sustainable transit with a €116.7 million investment aimed at decarbonizing its public transport fleet. Most of these funds go to ATAC, the operator managing the city's bus network. The company is using this capital to purchase a new fleet of hydrogen and electric buses to replace older, high-emission vehicles currently in service. This transition marks a departure from the city's long-standing reliance on standard combustion engines. To support the new vehicles, the city is building a specialized hub at the ATAC facility in Acilia. This site will serve as both a production plant and a refueling station for green hydrogen. Instead of relying on external fuel shipments, the depot will produce its own energy on-site. This setup ensures that the buses have a stable, self-sufficient supply of power for their daily routes.
Moving people doesn't have to mean polluting the air.

Anthro Energy breaks ground on electrolyte factory 🏭 Anthro Energy has officially started building its first commercial electrolyte facility in Kentucky. By late 2027, this plant aims to produce 12,000 tonnes of polymer electrolyte every year. Think of an electrolyte as the "blood" of a battery—it is the material that allows energy to flow back and forth between the poles. Current batteries mostly use a liquid, which can be unstable. This factory focuses on solid and semi-solid materials, which are designed to be safer and pack more power into the same space. To understand the scale, consider that 25 GWh of capacity is a massive step up. While a standard electric vehicle uses roughly 75 kWh, this facility will produce enough electrolyte to supply approximately 300,000 new electric cars annually. This is a clear move away from the tiny, small-batch lab tests that have historically kept this technology from reaching mass production. ⚡ Solid-state battery tech has been the "next big thing" for a long time. Seeing a massive factory like this rise is the clearest sign yet that it is finally moving out of the lab and onto the road. 🚀
The future of safer, high-capacity power is finally hitting the factory floor.

Unitree hits a $50 billion valuation on its market debut 🚀 Unitree Robotics just arrived on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, and investors responded with intense enthusiasm. Shares of the company climbed by 620% during the trading session, pushing the manufacturer's total market capitalization to $50 billion. You are seeing the market bet heavily on the future of humanoid robotics. While the firm currently leads the segment for affordable four-legged robots, it has already distributed 18,000 humanoid units to date. CEO Wang Xingxing suggests that we are roughly two to ten years away from a "ChatGPT moment" in robotics, where machines gain the ability to perform tasks without needing custom programming for every movement. 🔹 The IPO successfully raised $904 million in fresh capital. 🔹 Retail investor demand exceeded the available shares by several thousand times. 🔹 Much of the current volume is driven by over 90 government-backed training centers that buy hardware to generate movement data, which is then sold back to manufacturers. This setup looks different from a standard consumer electronics launch. While a company like Apple relies on selling millions of devices to regular consumers, Unitree is currently part of a cycle where state-supported centers are paying to develop the technology and build the dataset. It is a closed loop of development that acts as a significant contrast to the mass-market retail models typically seen in the tech industry. The stock market is currently pricing in a massive industry shift that hasn't fully arrived for the average person yet.
Investors are buying the promise of a future that is still being built.

Waymo reveals the 5nm brain behind its robotaxis 🤖 The autonomous fleet managed by Waymo now relies on a custom 5-nanometer computing module capable of performing 1,000 tera-operations per second. This processing power is what allows the vehicles to analyze data from cameras and lidars in real-time. Think of this metric as the thinking speed of the car's computer. It needs this massive capacity to identify pedestrians, traffic lights, and obstacles in milliseconds. This is a significant jump from general-purpose chips, as it is specifically designed to handle the sensory overload of driving in busy cities without human intervention. 🚀 The company, owned by Alphabet, currently operates roughly 4,000 vehicles across 11 US cities. Their fleet is diverse, utilizing Jaguar I-Pace crossovers, Zeeker minivans, and Hyundai Ioniq 5 SUVs. Riders book these trips through a dedicated app or via Uber. Most standard modern vehicles utilize far less processing power, relying on multiple distributed units for infotainment and basic safety systems. By consolidating this control into a single custom-designed module, Waymo reduces latency and power consumption compared to the complex, multi-component systems used in early experimental prototypes. ⚡
When hardware is built for a specific purpose, the software finally feels real.

Moderna and Merck hit major milestone in skin cancer treatment 🚀 Moderna and Merck have officially passed the Phase 3 trial for their cancer vaccine, proving it can effectively stop melanoma from returning. This study monitored 1,137 patients with high-risk skin cancer who had their tumors surgically removed. Think of this not as a preventative vaccine like you get for the flu, but as a custom-made defense system. 🧬 After surgeons remove your tumor, they analyze its specific mutations to create a treatment based on mRNA—essentially a set of biological instruction codes—tailored just for your body. The goal is to train your immune system to recognize and attack any lingering cancer cells that might otherwise cause a relapse. In this trial, the vaccine was used alongside Keytruda, an existing cancer drug. When compared to patients receiving only Keytruda, those who took the combination saw significantly better results in preventing the cancer from coming back or spreading. Following these results, Moderna saw its stock value climb by approximately 177%. It’s a huge step forward in creating treatments that are uniquely designed for the individual. 🔥
The future of medicine is becoming deeply personal.

Tesla recalls 2,740,642 vehicles in China Tesla is initiating a massive recall of 2,740,642 vehicles across China to address critical safety concerns mandated by local regulators. ⚠️ This decision follows an investigation by Chinese authorities into the reliability of key vehicle safety systems. The company must now deploy a software update that changes how their cars manage safety protocols during daily use. ▪️ The update modifies electronic door handle operations to ensure they remain accessible for rescue workers during emergency situations. ▪️ Software will now strictly enforce driver attention by utilizing the internal cabin camera to track eye movement and road focus. ▪️ This replaces the previous reliance on steering-wheel touch sensors, which regulators found insufficient and easy to bypass. This shift moves Tesla away from older sensor technology that allowed drivers to use cheap workarounds, like plastic props, to trick the system into thinking their hands were on the wheel. While steering-wheel sensors were once the industry standard for assisted driving, this update demonstrates that camera-based analysis is rapidly becoming the new baseline for safety in the world's largest automotive market.
Technology is only as reliable as its monitoring system.

Hydrogen catalyst milestone: 3,000 hours of operation A team of scientists has engineered a platinum-nickel catalyst that stays stable for 3,000 hours, creating a more reliable way to produce hydrogen. Producing hydrogen requires splitting water using electricity. The problem is that most catalysts break down quickly in these harsh chemical conditions. This new material resists that corrosion, allowing equipment to run much longer without needing a shutdown. In contrast, earlier versions often failed after just a few hundred hours of use, forcing operators to halt production frequently for expensive repairs. 🚀 Making green energy consistent is just as important as making it powerful.
Reliability is the real test for new technology.

China's 15th Five-Year Plan targets massive renewable energy growth China is planning a major shift for its power grid. Under the 15th Five-Year Plan covering 2026 to 2030, the country aims to hit a total installed renewable capacity of 3,500 GW by 2030. This initiative ensures that more than 50% of total power consumption comes from non-fossil sources. 🚀 Wind and solar will provide about 2,800 GW of that capacity, generating over 4,000 TWh of power annually. To keep things stable, China is mandating that energy storage systems hold 20% of their electricity for peak usage times. For context, GW measures power capacity, while TWh measures total energy produced over a year. This storage mandate is a significant jump from the current 10% reserve requirement. The country is also building massive power grids to move electricity from sunny, windy regions to large industrial centers. This shift is a massive step up. By 2025, the country expects to use 1,180 million tons of standard coal equivalent for renewables. The 2030 target aims for 1,800 million tons, representing a 53% increase in just 5 years.
A global shift in power starts with national scale.

General Atomics unveils the long-range Wildfire drone 🚀 General Atomics just pulled the curtain back on the Wildfire, a new concept drone that can fly a staggering 11,500 miles without stopping. This machine isn't meant to just look around. It is built to carry anti-ship missiles. This means it can fly huge distances over the ocean to strike targets far from its home base. It effectively acts as a reusable, long-range missile platform. ✈️ For perspective, the well-known MQ-9 Reaper, also made by General Atomics, has a flight range of about 1,150 miles. The Wildfire increases that potential reach by tenfold. This drastically changes the math for how far away a launch platform needs to be from its target. 🌊 The goal here is to keep the equipment and operators as far from the front line as possible.
Distance is no longer a shield.
