The line graph compares the quantity of foreigners that paid a visit to the UK for three distinct reasons over a twenty-year period, starting from 1989. Overall, of all the factors to visit, holiday, though fluctuated, maintained the first rank over the whole period in question, while the reverse of this proved true as for those who came to see their friends and relatives. Business stood in-between despite substantial fluctuations, making it merge with the lowest category twice throughout the study time.
Looking closely at the figure of those who came for holiday first, it topped the chart with slightly over 6 million visitors in 1989. Following this, first a gradual, then a rapid rise was recorded to make it reach the chart-high of around 9.5 million a decade later, before dipping at a little higher than 7 million in 2004. In the final year, however, the number of holiday-makers to the UK yet again recovered to around 9 million.
Much like, business also exhibited an upward trajectory. Decreasing from 5.5 million visitors initially to exactly 4 million in 1993, the number of foreigners coming to the UK with the purpose of business then saw exponential growth to 8 million in 2007. However, it ended the period down with 7 million visitors after 2 years.
Meanwhile, the last group of people – travelers coming to see their close acquaintances – also maintained its ranking. The change of pattern was upward, with the figures reaching 6 million in the final year from the initial total (which was) amounted to some 3.5 million.
