Repost from Hammer and Vajra
Runes, the Algiz ᛘ, and the Cross I agree with Tom's take regarding this (linked below). I don't think List was fully full of it like he does. I think working within general post Theosophy and Occult influenced List had certain ideas that weren't correct or had Christian holdovers. Some of List's takes had truth to them when seen via a mystical lens. Runes are absolutely magical, but as Tom says (linked below) they are also just letters by themsleves. Rune meaning "mystery" or "secret" shows that it us more like a key to these divine and cosmic powers. Runes can be, and are both. Letters for writing and symbols to represent power and magic to be used in formula. The Rune poems give us clues to not only how the alphabet was memorized but the meanings and potential mystical understanding of different Germanic peoples for each. ᛘ in the Icelandic is Maðr (man). "Maðr er manns gaman ok moldar auki ok skipa skreytir." "Man = delight of man and augmentation of the earth and adorner of ships." In Anglo-Saxon: "ᛉ sec[g e]ard hæfþ oftust on fenne ƿexeð on ƿature, ƿundaþ grimme blode breneð beorna gehƿẏlcne ðe him ænigne onfeng gedeþ." "The Elk-sedge usually lives in the fen, growing in the water. It wounds severely, staining with blood any manwho makes a grab at it." In the inverse in Younger Futhark the Rune ᛦ is a Yew tree. "Yr byþ æþelinga and eorla gehwæs wyn and wyrþmynd, byþ on wicge fæger, fæstlic on færelde, fyrdgeatewa sum" "yew-bow for every noble and warrior is a joy and adornment, is fair on a steed, a trusty piece of war-gear for a journey" Also we have: "Eoh byþ utan unsmeþe treoƿ, heard hrusan fæst, hyrde fyres, ƿyrtrumun underƿreþyd, ƿyn on eþle." "The yew is a tree with rough bark, hard and fast in the earth, supported by its roots, a guardian of flame and a joy upon an estate." It being a tree is very much were List got the connection to the Rune of life, Oðinn, and Yggdrasil. This isn't an improper understanding. Nor is the life and death as the inverse of this Rune ᛦ is often used as a Z (or an M). People have associated this life and death with the Roman Crucifixion and thereby Christ. But also Oðinn and Yggdrasil. Whereby Christianity pulled this into what would become their understanding and amalgamation of God which was a heavy merger between Dyeus / Jupiter, Dionysus, Oðinn, Jesus, and of course El / Yahweh. These are the elements that make up the Christian God regardless of what anyone says. With that one could be correct saying that the Rune, and symbolism, were adopted by Christianity and connected to the Cross. However, it is absolutely also a true statement that in Proto Germanic the Algiz Rune is an Elk. As Algiz means Elk. The image, cosmological connection, and ritual associated with the Elk is an obvious core Pagan understanding. Also it should be noted that this Rune was found in Etruscan / Italic as 𐌙. Regarding how Christianity absolutely took from Paganism. Almost none of it's imagery, including the cross (which the church tried to ban the imagery off because it was too Pagan many times) is without European Pagan or general old Eurasian Pagan influenced. Many E Christians love to complain about Pagans while promoting a Hebraic Middle Eastern and Mesopotamian god mix of Yahweh who was a pagan god out of a Pantheon as their primary god. Then adding Angels, Demons, and Saints with a Divine mother....and you have a Pagan Pantheon and shell. You just have to fill it with substance. This substance is European virtues, symbolism, metaphysics, and philosophy. Arguing with Christians online is often not worth your time. Many of these people are Christians in name only but mostly just disenfranchised angry people who use their hobby of Christianity as a means to have debates and feel like they have meaning in their life. I'm not going to defend Christianity but I dont see many red letters that command them to spend their whole lives attacking Pagans online and slandering others. Tom's original reply.

I saw a post on here from some “Christian Metal” band claiming the old gods are dead and that Christ is king, and the rightful and true god of Europe and the whole world. Those spreading this toxic message will then pick and choose from the church’s history about what they will support or ignore. What acts are boasted of or an embarrassment. In one breath they will praise the Crusades against the Muslims, while ignoring that they also resulted in the deaths of an uncountable number of Europeans, and the erasure of entire cultures and languages over decades of intra-European brutality. The Roman Catholic Church in France alone has more than 330,000 documented victims of child abuse. 2019 saw over 2500 new cases just in the USA. From the Dark Ages until now, Christianity, and especially the organization that accounts for roughly half of all Christians worldwide, has been responsible for the organized and systematic destruction and molestation of culture, art, history, spirituality and innocent lives across the planet. These same people will decry other desert-rooted religions as unwholesome or incompatible with Western civilization. These are good things to remember and acknowledge when you wonder why some of us are still staunchly opposed to it and prefer to follow the call of our own European blood. For time immemorial before a foreign conquest of endless war and propaganda slithered its way into the places of power in the west, our people’s own ways were sufficient. For me they still are. The blood still speaks, and the old gods are still alive, because they were always our own ancestors, our own stories and traditions written into the very code of our DNA.

This bracteate from Skyrdstrup, Denmark, utilizes two runic charms; ALU, and laukaz, leek. It invokes the apotropaic properties of the leek; in the Sigrdrífumál, Sigrdrífa advises Sigurðr to write Nauð runes on his nails and put a leek in his cup to avoid being cursed. The figure could depict Tyr, or perhaps Odin with one of His wolves and ravens, and the stag Eikþyrnir. The bird head in His hair calls to mind Odin’s epithet Arnhöfði, eagle-head. It utilizes a bindrune with an early form of the Younger Futhark Kaun rune, placing it in the 5-6th Century. ᛚᚨᚢᚳᚨᛉ: ᚨᛚᚢ

Better yet. Go to gym. Wear Mjölnir. Praise Þórr before and after every lift! (Though the point of the post below is the performative approach. Just like how most people wearing a cross don't know anything about the bible. Funny thing is more people wearing a Mjölnir still shows cultural change and growth. In some ways I would rather have a Germanic man wearing a Mjölnir at least for his culture and ancestors than a cross if he wants to look "cool" or "strong")

Berserkrs/Cimbri warriors, based on the Torslunda Plates and Plutarch’s Life of Marius, art by Brother Bjorn, commissioned by me. The first warrior wears no armour, as described in the Ynglinga saga, with only his faith to protect him. A warrior’s halo springs from his head, inspired by the Táin Bó Cúailnge and the figures on the Sutton Hoo helmet, indicating a state of ecstatic fury; possession by Odin. The second warrior wears a chainmail brynja, and a helmet shaped like a wolf’s head. Both carry the weapons described by Plutarch; two throwing spears and a sword. “(Cimbri) horsemen rode out in splendid style, with helmets made to resemble the maws of frightful wild beasts or the heads of strange animals, which, with their towering crests of feathers, made their wearers appear taller than they really were.” “For hurling, each man had two lances; and at close quarters they used large, heavy swords.” ~Plutarch, Life of Marius 𐘾

The she-goat, she who is called Heidrún, stands up in Valhall and bites the needles from the limb of that tree which is very famous, and is called Lærádr; and from her udders mead runs so copiously, that she fills a tun every day. That tun is so great that all the champions become quite drunk from it." Then said Gangleri: "That is a wondrous proper goat for them; it must be an exceeding good tree from which she eats." -Gylfaginning 39
