Jilted Wife Hesitant To Give Second Chance DEAR ABBY: I married a recovering addict, and for years he did great. We made a lovely home and family together. Then one of my husband's drug buddies (a woman) resurfaced. My husband had an affair, went down that nasty road again and did some very cruel things to destroy our marriage. We have been married 19 years and separated for the last three, with a divorce pending. My husband now wants to make amends. He's in a rehab program, but I'm reluctant. We have been on a few dates, and I have real concerns about what will happen when we run into the other woman. I asked her at least six times to go away and stay away. How should I expect him to react when we run into her? She's deeply embedded in his social circle, far more than I ever was because I don't care for the debauchery lifestyle. He promises he has cut ties with everyone in that circle. But I know it's only a matter of time until we run into her. — ANGRY AND HURT IN GEORGIA DEAR ANGRY: You are rightfully hurt and angry, but if reconciling is going to work out well, it's important you're assured that he isn't still carrying a torch for her. You would be wise (and less confrontational) if you ask your almost-ex-husband how he plans to react should he encounter her, rather than dictate how he should do it. He's in rehab and trying to rebuild his life after the mess he made of it. I see no reason to create a scene if your paths cross. A courteous hello and goodbye should suffice. . 👇 @IELTS_Council @IELTS_Council

Man Has Firm Hold on Family Finances - April 03, 2023 - DEAR ABBY: I'm back at work after being a stay-at-home mom for the last decade. My job is in public schooling, and I earn less than $25,000 a year. My husband works for a Fortune 500 company and earns more than $120,000 per year. I understand that we have debt, and I'm willing to contribute, but he keeps my paycheck -- all of it. To be honest, even as hard as he works and as much as he takes care of and provides for our family, I am not happy. It's not that I plan to leave, but without my own money, I don't even have an option to plan for the future. How can I convince him to allow me the money I earn, while assuring him that I'll help to pay down our debt? -- WORKING FOR NOTHING IN OHIO DEAR WORKING: Your husband appears to be deeply insecure and controlling. You are a wife, not an indentured servant. You shouldn't have to ask, beg or be required to convince him that you should have money you are earning. Tell him that, and also explain how much of your money you want to put aside in an account of your own. If he refuses, suggest the two of you get mediation from a licensed family therapist. If he refuses to go with you, go alone. You may also want to consult an attorney who specializes in family law about what your rights as a wife are in the state of Ohio. Please don't put it off. . 👇 @IELTS_Council @IELTS_Council

Husband Feels Increasingly Alone Dealing With Handicap - April 03, 2023 - DEAR ABBY: I am medically retired and have mobility issues, so I'm unable to be active or socialize. I don't have many friends outside my family, so I spend many hours alone at home. My wife is an elementary school teacher. My two youngest children are in high school. My wife is an excellent teacher, and I appreciate everything she does for our family and her students. When she returns home in the evening, she has to grade papers, create lesson plans and dozens of other things that need preparation. I understand this, but when she's finished, she spends the rest of the evenings or weekends on social media. Trying to have a conversation with her is almost impossible because she's not listening or interacting with me. I get short "yes" or "no" answers or constant "uh-huh" replies. I've tried talking with her about the fact I feel marginalized, but she just gets angry. It's not easy being married to a physically handicapped person, I know. Am I being overly sensitive? How do I express to her the loneliness I feel and the longing for a connection with my wife? -- LONELY HUSBAND IN UTAH DEAR LONELY HUSBAND: It may not be easy. You may need help getting through to her. Tell your wife that you would like to have some marriage counseling because you feel all alone in this marriage. However, if she refuses, consider some counseling for yourself. Developing other social outlets online, as she appears to be doing, also could be beneficial. Many communities provide transportation for disabled individuals so they can get out of their homes. Depending upon your physical impairment, you may be interested in exploring what's available in your area. . 👇 @IELTS_Council @IELTS_Council

Soon-To-Be In-Law Asks To Extend Free Stay - December 10, 2022 - DEAR ABBY: My daughter is being married in a month. Her fiance is Canadian. We have reserved a block of rooms for guests who are coming from afar. I understand the importance of the groom's mom being here for the ceremony, so when I was told she couldn't afford the hotel, I offered to pay for her room for the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday so she could be here. My daughter now says his mother is asking for Sunday night, too. I replied that she could reserve it and pay for it herself or request a late checkout on Sunday. I don't have room for her to stay in my home, and I think I am generous to be paying for her hotel stay in the first place, let alone three nights. Is the bride's family obligated to pay for this? — ASKING FOR TOO MUCH DEAR ASKING: Are you obligated? Certainly not. It is presumptuous for the groom's mother to expect that you would. If she's unable to pay for the extended accommodations, her son should step up to the plate. 👇 https://g.co/kgs/vP7XJH

Relationships Get Tangled as Student Meets New Peers - December 10, 2022 - DEAR ABBY: I'm a high school junior in a predicament. Early in my sophomore year, during a school trip, I developed strong feelings for a girl named "Joelle." She's a grade ahead of me, meaning I don't see her often or have many chances to talk to her during school except for the occasional chance meeting. Because of our lack of contact, I thought my feelings were subsiding, so I started a relationship with another girl, "Amber." However, shortly after beginning this new relationship, I had a long conversation with Joelle and quickly realized I'm in love with her. While I still have feelings for Amber, it crushes me not to be with Joelle. To make matters worse, if I end things with Amber, there's no guarantee Joelle would give me a chance — she's bisexual (but primarily lesbian) and she's close friends with Amber. I don't want to throw away my relationship with Amber over what may amount to a pipe dream, but I really am in love with Joelle. Please help. — JUMBLED HEART IN SAN FRANCISCO DEAR JUMBLED: Amber deserves better than to be involved with a guy who is in love with someone else. Because Joelle is not only "primarily" lesbian but also close friends with Amber, do not pin your hopes on anything but friendship with her. Ever. You have two more years of high school ahead of you. During that time, you are going to meet other attractive young women who will return your feelings. These two aren't that. 👇 https://g.co/kgs/vP7XJH

Bride-To-Be Doesn't Want Sister in Wedding Party - November 29, 2022 - DEAR ABBY: I became engaged to a wonderful man five months ago. We have set a wedding date for next year. I'm ecstatic -- thrilled to be planning such an important milestone in my life. I'm the youngest of five girls. Four of us are extremely close. Three of my sisters have graciously offered to help with the wedding planning and preparation. I have included them in my bridal party -- matron of honor, two bridesmaids, and two of my teenage nieces as junior bridesmaids. There's one big issue: My parents and two of my sisters insist that I include my oldest sister, "Iris," in my bridal party even though she has a mental illness (schizophrenia). She is medicated, but still speaks to her "voices." I love her, but I don't find it appropriate to include her in my wedding. My matron of honor is supportive and agrees it would be unwise. However, my remaining family is guilt-tripping me because Iris missed out on two of my sisters' weddings due to being in a psychiatric facility. She lives with my retired parents now and requires care and supervision. Am I wrong for not wanting to risk including her on my big day? -- FUTURE BRIDE IN KENTUCKY DEAR FUTURE BRIDE: Weddings are family events that can sometimes strain relationships. As with all conflict, communication and compromise are key. Discuss your concerns with your parents, sisters and fiance and consider their opinions and advice. Get assurances of their help to ease your concerns and raise your comfort level. More important, respectfully discuss your feelings and concerns with Iris. Instead of being in the bridal party, she might be happy with a less prominent role while still being part of the celebration. You may not realize how hurt she would be if she's excluded from this family milestone. Thankfully, you are healthy and stepping into a bright future. It would be wonderful if Iris could share in this joyful occasion. However, include her only if your parents and siblings are willing to guarantee that should her presence become a distraction or disruptive, they will quietly and immediately remove her. 👇 https://g.co/kgs/vP7XJH

Ex-wife's Snub in Wedding Speech Saddens Father of Groom - October 30, 2022 - DEAR ABBY: I just attended my son's wedding. He married a wonderful woman, and I couldn't be happier for them. However, I was not acknowledged during their wedding reception, which deeply saddened me. My son's mother and I divorced 25 years ago after she cheated on me with several men. I never disclosed her infidelity to my son because I didn't want to tarnish his view of his mother. During the reception, when she spoke to the guests, she made it sound like she raised our son alone. I wasn't mentioned at all during her speech, even though I had custody of him for more than a year when we first divorced. Because I was in the military and had to go on deployments, she took him for a few years after that. I also had custody of him during all of his high school years because she couldn't handle him. Although I got him through graduation, she took all the credit. I'm deeply hurt that she didn't have the decency to mention me. If she had, I would be OK with letting the past be the past. My new daughter-in-law thinks my ex is this wonderful woman who raised my son all by herself. Although I don't have the heart to tell my son about the lies and cheating my ex put me through, I feel the need to inform my daughter-in-law of my ex's narcissism so she will understand it was I who raised him during his formative and high school years. What should I do? -- NONEXISTENT DAD DEAR DAD: One would think that before marrying this wonderful woman, your son would have told her about his history. If he hasn't, the next time the three of you talk, I see no reason why you can't raise the subject of the years he lived with you. When you do, refrain from calling your ex-wife names. From your description of her, she was behaving as she always had and thinking only of herself. You are lucky to be rid of her. 👇 https://g.co/kgs/YPPdXX
