Faculty AI Computational Server Gatekeeper About the role Become the gatekeeper of our faculty AI computation server. I'm looking for a 1st to 3rd year student to help me set it up, keep it running and control who gets in. You'll work on a real system with real users, starting with guided tasks and taking on more as you grow. This is a voluntary, unpaid learning position (at least now). No prior DevOps experience is needed. What you will do * Learn, learn and learn. Pick up Linux administration, networking and DevOps practice as the main part of the role. * Run setup and maintenance scripts. Apply them to the server, check the results and report problems. * Monitor availability. Watch that the server and its services are up, and raise issues quickly. * Support users. Help teachers and students with local setup and with connecting to the server. * Manage access. Handle accounts, permissions and whitelists, including removing access that is no longer needed. * Keep documentation current. Write and update setup guides, FAQs and runbooks for the things you learn. * Track requests and incidents. Record what happened and how it was resolved, so the next fix is faster. * Watch resource usage. Keep an eye on disk, memory and compute use, and flag anything running out. * Help with updates and backups. Assist with planned updates and with checking that backups work. What you will gain * Hands-on experience running a shared server that people depend on * Practical Linux, command-line and DevOps skills * Direct guidance while you learn * Real work to talk about in future internship and job applications Who we are looking for Required * 1st, 2nd or 3rd year student * Eager to learn and happy to ask questions * Reliable and careful, especially with other people's access and data * Patient when helping others A bonus, not a requirement * Experience with the command line * Experience with Linux How to apply Apply through this Google Form.
