🔬 Scientists Discover New "Soft Cells" for Tiling! 🧩
What is Tiling?
Tiling refers to covering surfaces with geometric shapes that leave no gaps, like squares or hexagons in floor designs. These classical shapes have sharp edges and corners.
New Discovery: Soft Cells
Recently discovered soft cells have smooth, rounded edges, unlike traditional tiles. In 2D, they have two pointed corners; in 3D, they have no corners at all. This distributed curvature allows soft cells to efficiently fill space without sharp deviations.
Where It’s Used
Natural patterns like muscle cells, zebra stripes, and nautilus shells display these soft-cell tiling. In nautilus shells, soft cells create seamless, curved chambers without sharp corners, showing the relationship between 2D and 3D forms.
Significance
The smooth, rounded form of soft cells offers insights into biological structures and opens new paths in biology, architecture, and materials science. This discovery shows nature’s preference for minimizing sharp corners for structural and functional efficiency, paving the way for further mathematical and scientific exploration.

📢 TRAI’s New Regulation on Registered Senders – A Step Towards Tackling Spam!
📍 Why in News?
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has taken a significant step in curbing unsolicited commercial communication (UCC) by implementing new rules for registered message senders. 🚨
🔑 Key Points:
Over 3,000 registered senders have complied with the new requirement of whitelisting their content with TRAI.
The rules aim to regulate promotional SMS, frauds, and phishing links 📲.
This move particularly affects businesses sending promotional messages, OTT links, and transactional alerts to users.
💡 What is Whitelisting?
Whitelisting is a process of pre-approving and verifying specific entities or individuals, allowing them to send messages while ensuring that only legitimate and authorized communication reaches the consumers. This helps block spam and fraudulent messages before they enter the network.
Its a key initiative to regulate unsolicited commercial communication (UCC).
💡 Objective:
TRAI’s Role: Regulatory body to oversee the telecom sector.
TRAI’s whitelisting mechanism is designed to ensure that only pre-registered and verified entities can send commercial messages to customers. It enhances transparency and ensures that fraudulent messages don’t reach users.

📰 Bombay HC Strikes Down Centre’s Fact-Check Unit – Amended IT Rules Ruled Unconstitutional!
📍Why in News?
The Bombay High Court has declared the Centre’s Fact-Check Unit (FCU), established under the Amended IT Rules, 2023, as unconstitutional. The judgment emphasized that the rules violate several fundamental rights, including the right to free speech 🗣 and right to equality.
🚨 Key Details:
Amended IT Rules, 2023 empowered the Centre to set up the FCU to identify fake, false, and misleading information related to the government and its establishments.
Social media intermediaries were required to remove flagged content within 36 hours to maintain their safe harbour protection (legal immunity for ISPs hosting third-party content).
🔍 Violation of Fundamental Rights:
Article 14 – Right to Equality.
Article 19(1)(a) – Freedom of Speech and Expression.
Article 19(1)(g) – Right to Profession.
⚖️ Split Verdict & Final Ruling:
One judge ruled that the rule promoted censorship and didn’t fall under the reasonable restrictions allowed under Article 19(2).
Another judge argued that the government was best suited to combat misinformation.
A tie-breaking ruling from the Chief Justice-appointed judge declared the term “fake, false, and misleading” as vague and unconstitutional, creating a chilling effect on social media intermediaries.
👨⚖️ Supreme Court’s Role: The Centre’s notification of the FCU was stayed by the Supreme Court, and the ruling may be challenged by the Centre in the apex court.
