🔆 Virtual Magnet Technology (VMSM) 📍 Why in News? ✅ Bengaluru-based startup Vimag Labs has developed Virtual Magnet Technology, claiming to eliminate the need for rare-earth elements in Electric Vehicle (EV) motors. 📍 What is Virtual Magnet Technology? ✅ Uses a Virtual Magnet Synchronous Motor (VMSM) instead of the conventional Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM). ✅ Replaces physical rare-earth permanent magnets (e.g., Neodymium) with copper coils. ✅ Creates a software-controlled magnetic field using power electronics and advanced algorithms. ✅ Features a brushless, slip-ring-free design built using steel and copper. 📍 How It Works ✅ Copper coils are continuously energized and regulated to dynamically generate a magnetic field. ✅ Real-time software control simulates the function of permanent magnets, eliminating dependence on rare-earth materials. 📍 Advantages ✅ Reduces dependence on rare-earth elements, improving supply-chain resilience. ✅ Supports Atmanirbhar Bharat by reducing import dependence. ✅ Uses widely available materials such as steel and copper. ✅ Potentially lowers geopolitical risks linked to rare-earth supply. 📍 Challenges ✅ Continuous current supply to copper coils causes core resistance losses and copper heating. ✅ Switching losses in power electronics reduce overall efficiency. ✅ Lower starting torque compared to permanent magnet motors. ✅ Constraints on achieving high speeds and peak EV performance due to electromagnet-based design. 📍 Prelims Pointer ✅ PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor): Uses rare-earth permanent magnets embedded in the rotor. ✅ VMSM (Virtual Magnet Synchronous Motor): Uses software-controlled electromagnets (copper coils) to generate the magnetic field without rare-earth magnets. #GS3 #prelims #science_technology #science_and_technology Join https://t.me/PIB_UPSC https://t.me/upsc_science_and_technology

🔆 The Next Chapter for the Education Ministry 📍 Why in Focus? ✅ With Prahlad Joshi taking charge as the Union Education Minister, the focus shifts to completing key NEP 2020 reforms and addressing implementation gaps in school and higher education. 📍 Key Highlights ✅ Major reforms underway include the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan (VBSA) Bill, three-language policy, and teacher training initiatives. ✅ NIPUN Bharat targets Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) for all children by Grade 3 by 2026–27, though learning gaps persist. ✅ The National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST) and National Mentoring Mission (NMM) aim to improve teacher quality and professional development. ✅ Higher education reforms focus on Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), multidisciplinary learning, SWAYAM Plus, and AI-based skill development, but implementation remains uneven across States. 📍 Key Challenges ✅ Slow implementation of NEP 2020 across States. ✅ Opposition to UGC Regulations, 2025 and the three-language policy. ✅ Inadequate funding and institutional capacity, particularly in State universities. 📍 UPSC Value Addition ✅ NIPUN Bharat: National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy. ✅ SWAYAM Plus: Industry-oriented online learning platform offering 500+ courses across emerging technologies and professional skills. ✅ Academic Bank of Credits (ABC): Enables digital storage and transfer of academic credits under NEP 2020. 📍 Mains Question “The success of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 depends more on effective implementation than policy design.” Discuss in the context of the ongoing reforms in India’s education sector.
