Such memories, of course, would imply the unthinkable: that Iran was as beautiful, as fun, as energizing and romantic, as Oklahoma or Montana or New York. when all conversation would stop and she would be asked to repeat our escape story. The problem, of course, was that they wanted our salvation story as a talisman, no more. No one ever asked what our house in Iran looked like, what fruits we grew in our yard, what books we read, what music we loved and what it felt like now not to understand any of the songs on the radio. No one asked if we missed our cousins or grandparents or best friends. No one asked what we did in summers or if we had any photos of the Caspian Sea. “Men treat women horribly there, don’t they?” the women would ask. Somehow it didn’t feel OK to tell them about my funny dad with his pockets full of sour cherries, or my grandpa who removed his false teeth when he told ghost stories. In many of the classes I’ve taught, my quietest kids have been Middle Eastern. I’m always surprised by this, since the literature I choose should resonate most with them, since I’m an Iranian teacher, their ally, since the civilized world yearns for their voices now. Still, they bristle at headlines about the refugee crisis that I flash on the screen, hang their heads, and look relieved when the class is finished. Their silence makes me angry, but I understand why they don’t want to commit to any point of view. Who knows what their universe looks like outside my classroom, what sentiments they’re expected to display in order to be on the inside https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/apr/04/dina-nayeri-ungrateful-refugee?CMP=share_btn_fb

A Part of Harvard President Letter to Biden, December 11, 2020 The United States has brought the world’s best students, researchers, and scholars together to enrich teaching and learning on college campuses, and they have also served on the front lines of the nation’s most complex challenges. Currently, many foreign-born health professionals, physicians, and students are leading the COVID response, providing clinical care, conducting research, and developing the safe and effective therapeutics that are key to our ability to reopen while protecting the vulnerable among us. One example is Noubar Afeyan, a Beirut national who earned his PhD at MIT and worked on an H-1B visa before he became a US citizen. Today, Afeyan is the cofounder and chairman of Moderna, the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based biotechnology company that has developed one of the leading COVID vaccine candidates. Although his contribution is exceptional, Afeyan’s story is not unique. The National Science Board estimates that as many as 50 percent of United States PhD holders in the high-demand fields of science and engineering were born abroad. Additionally, more than a third—37 percent—of US scientists who received Nobel Prizes in chemistry, physics, and medicine since 2000 were immigrants, as well as five of Harvard’s 13 prize winners since 1998. https://www.harvard.edu/president/news/2020/letter-to-president-elect-biden هفت شهر عشق را عطار گشت و دیگر هرگز به خانه برنگشت

Ain't No Mountain High Enough Marvin Gaye Listen, baby, ain't no mountain high Ain't no valley low, ain't no river wide enough, baby If you need me, call me, no matter where you are No matter how far, don't worry, baby Just call my name, I'll be there in a hurry You don't have to worry 'Cause baby, there ain't no mountain.... Ain't no valley...... To keep me from getting to you, baby Remember the day I set you free I told you, you could always count on me, girl And from that day on I made a vow I'll be there when you want me some way, some how 'Cause baby, there ain't no….. Ain't no valley…….. To keep me from getting to you, baby Oh no darling, no wind, no rain Or winters cold can stop me baby No, no baby, 'cause you are my love If you ever in trouble, I'll be there on the double Just send for me, oh baby My love is alive, way down in my heart Although we are miles apart If you ever need a helping hand I'll be there on the double just as fast as I can https://t.me/MkNotes/1367

Johnny Cash...Hurt It took Trent Reznor to write it, Rick Rubin to bring it up and produce it, Johnny Cash to perform it and Mark Romanek to visualize it (133,498,832 YouTube views). Johnny Cash covered "Hurt" in 2002, and died in 2003, aged 71—less than four months after his wife's death. Reznor praised Cash's interpretation of the song for its "sincerity and meaning", going so far as to say “THAT SONG ISN'T MINE ANYMORE.”

Johnny Cash...Hurt I hurt myself today To see if I still feel I focus on the pain The only thing that's real The needle tears a hole The old familiar sting Try to kill it all away But I remember everything What have I become? My sweetest friend Everyone I know goes away In the end And you could have it all My empire of dirt I will let you down I will make you hurt I wear this crown of thorns Upon my liar's chair Full of broken thoughts I cannot repair Beneath the stains of time The feelings disappear You are someone else I'm still right here What have I become? My sweetest friend Everyone I know goes away In the end And you could have it all My empire of dirt I will let you down I will make you hurt If I could start again A million miles away I would keep myself I would find a way https://t.me/MkNotes/1364
