Judges at the Federal High Court ordered Berhan Bank to pay 86 million Br to the Ethiopian Roads Administration (ERA) a year after the court battle began. The bank had issued an advance payment guarantee bond to Tekeleberhan Ambaye Construction Plc (TACON) for a road project in the Oromia Regional State. The grade-one contractor, incorporated by Tekleberhan Ambaye as a major shareholder, won the contract for a 68Km road from Robe-Seru in July 2018. Berhan Bank issued the guarantee for 89.6 million Br the following February. The project had an estimated cost of 993 million Br and a three-year completion period. The ERA made two rounds of advance payments to the contractor for 46 million Br and 43 million Br in March and April 2019.

Four Contractors are shortlisted for Cathedral renovation
The Authority for Research and Conservation of Cultural heritage shortlisted four Contractors for the renovation works of the Holy Trinity Cathedral Church, a project which is expected to consume as high as 80 million Br.
It a renovation project that is expected to extend the time span of the cathedral without another major renovation by 50 years.
In a letter addressed to the Cathedral on December 27, 2021, the Authority suggested Varnero Construction, Misak General Construction, Planet Museum Activities & Preservation and Historic Site of Building, and Elmi Olindo Contractors Plc to be competitors in the renovation bid.

Berbera-Togochale Road Project Nears Completion
85 percent of the construction of the cross-boundary road project which links Somaliland's port city of Berbera with Ethiopia's border town of Togochale has been completed.
The road is expected to make Somaliland an emerging competitor, along with Djibouti and Kenya, in attracting Ethiopian importers and exporters. The completion of the road is also expected to boost the trade volume between Ethiopia and Somaliland by 30 percent.
The 234-kilometer highway road project, which consists of three phases, is planned to be completed by the end of 2022.

Roads Authority Lifts Embargo on Tsehay Insurance Following 4.7m Br Settlement
The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) has lifted a ban on Tsehay Insurance S.C. preventing it from issuing advance payment and performance guarantee bonds for contractors ERA hires.
The move comes after the insurance firm paid a settlement of 4.7 million Br to the Authority for an advance payment guarantee bond it had issued to Akir Construction more than seven years ago.
