2026 - PSIR Paper 1& 2 Analysis.pdf2.07 KB

*PSIR 2026: Analysis of Paper I & Paper II* The overall level of both papers was Moderate to Tough, but firmly within the expected syllabus line. As every year, UPSC retained familiar themes while exploring new areas, new framings and less-discussed dimensions. Paper I was more thinker-intensive and constitutionally precise, while Paper II tested contemporary international developments, strategic concepts and India's bilateral relations. *A few trends are Particularly Noteworthy:* -- Recurring PYQ themes were retained, but often with a changed analytical demand. -- Questions moved from broad topics to specific micro-topics. -- Named thinkers, constitutional provisions, institutions, strategic concepts and contemporary terminology gained importance. -- Static knowledge had to be combined with current examples. -- Frequency-based preparation alone was not sufficient. *The larger message for PSIR aspirants is clear:* -- General topic → Micro-topic -- Definition → Application -- Static preparation → Static plus current affairs -- Selective study → Wider syllabus coverage The era of preparing only broad headings and answer-templates is over. It is now time to move from the general to the particular. Read the complete analysis carefully and use it to design your PSIR preparation strategy.

Aristotle warned that political systems cease to be virtuous when public office becomes an instrument of private advantage rather than public good. Defection exemplifies office being treated as private property. Connecting scholars • Kautilya: A ruler's legitimacy, his rajdharma ultimately hinges on maintaining the confidence and trust of the populace. • Machiavelli: Machiavelli warned that systematically destroying independent centers of influence and opposition erodes and weakens the state itself over time. Conclusion - Defection in India is frequently incentivized not by ideological shifts, but by investigative pressure or legal vulnerabilities. Switching sides provides legal immunity, reinforcing a public perception that state institutions operate with partisan bias.

Core theme of article from PSIR perspective - Political defections unilaterally rewrite the implicit social contract between voters and representatives. Rather than hurting the losing Opposition, the primary casualty is the voter, whose vote is reduced from a democratic choice to a tradable political commodity.
