✦ Posterior Compartment of the Leg✦
1️⃣ Superficial Group (Calf Muscles)🔹
Gastrocnemius
• Most superficial muscle
• Powerful plantar flexor of the foot
🔹 Plantaris
• Small muscle with a long tendon
• Runs between Gastrocnemius & Soleus
🔹 Soleus
• Originates from Tibia & Fibula
• Main plantar flexor of the foot
2️⃣ Deep Group🔹
Tibialis Posterior
• From posterior Tibia, Fibula & Interosseous Membrane
• Tendon passes behind the medial malleolus
🔹 Flexor Digitorum Longus
• Deep muscle of the leg
• Flexes lateral four toes
🔹 Flexor Hallucis Longus
• Deep muscle of the leg
• Flexes the great toe
🔹 Popliteus
• Acts on the knee joint
• "Unlocks" the knee from full extension
📝 Remember:
Superficial = GPS ➡️
Gastrocnemius ➡️ Plantaris ➡️ Soleus
Deep = TP + FDL + FHL + Popliteus

✦✦بإختصار ✦✦🔹
Hip → Ball & Socket → movement + stability
🔹 Knee → Modified hinge → flexion & extension
🔹 Tibiofibular → 3 joints → stability connection
🔹 Ankle → Hinge → dorsiflexion & plantarflexion
📌 Remember:
✦ Hip = mobility
✦Knee = biggest joint
✦Ankle = weight-bearing

These muscles are located on the anterior side of the thigh and are responsible for hip flexion:
🔹Ilio-psoas
🔹Sartorius
🔹Rectus femoris
🔹Pectineus
🔹Tensor (Tensor fasciae latae)
2️⃣ Extensors (Posterior Muscles)
These muscles are located on the posterior side of the thigh and are responsible for hip extension:
🔹Gluteus maximus
🔹Hamstrings
